I don't believe it is about the money. They are in on Clarkson and possibly looking to make some deals to bring in other high-priced players...
Despite EM's apparent money troubles, the team is still able to spend.
I think Alfredsson is leaving because, for whatever reason, he feels Detroit gives him a better chance to win a Cup. Personally, I don't see Detroit as a contender anymore than Ottawa, though you can never count out a team that has Datsyuk and Zetterberg.

I am curious to know what the rest of the story is. He is a classy guy, and I am sure its warranted.
Realistically Sens have a young inexperienced team even when Spezza returns and Karlsson gets healthy. Plus, the Sens aren't spending to the cap like the Redwings will.
I am definitely surprised/disappointed, but not angry at Alfie.

ITs kind of funny. Spent all off season reading about whether Alfredsson would be back. Then I heard he would play again, and automatically assumed it was with the Sens.
Never dreamt he would go elsewhere.
Detroit makes total sense. Classy organization who has a better shot at winning the Cup than the Senators and has connections to other Swedes.

Oh bug off. Their shot at the Cup is barely any better than Ottawa's was if they had Alfredsson. Barely made the playoffs last year

Ottawa fans just need to realize that Detroit is better AND has Swedes. It's not that big of a deal. The Sens are going to keep getting better but their time is not now. The Red Wings will add a few pieces and be a contender as usual.
