I know next to nothing about Nieves and had to look him up. Doesn't seem like there is much there. I find it hilarious that his nickname "Boo" is part of his hockeydb entry though!
Mika deserves nothing more than a bridge IMO, prove your worth is hopefully the route Gorton goes. My line stab goes as follows:
Zucc-Mika-Nash
Kreider-Hayes-Miller
Vesey-Desharnais-Buch
Fast-Nieves-Grabner
team is still sneakily deep at forward even with loss of Derek but need someone like a Nieves to be ready this year. Andersson signed entry level contract today so clearly there's reason to believe management will give him a shot to crack roster now.

he's not going to be a scorer but he is big and has wheels for his size something NYR lack down the middle severely.

I guess so. As a fourth liner that's exactly what you're looking for.
I really want Andersson to make the team a lot of negative comments towards picking him seventh overall this year but he's about the safest bet you could be to be a roster player. Kids engine/work ethic is relentless and I really want to see what he can do. Seems like a Kruger with offensive ability.

boo could take the 4th line job if he seizes the opportunity
as mentioned his size, speed and skating are clearly needed at center for ny
boo is a good looking player
with his new contract perhaps fast moves ahead of grabner, but after the goals from last year we can see why coach will probably go with him over fast
i think the main issue will be where miller lines up
Consider Sim Hockey because guys who play shutdown minutes, deflect shots and clear creases build championships. Yet in fantasy they litter the unwanted UFA lists.
Pirri joins Kevin Klein in Switzerland.
meanwhile the Post suggests that Mika's numbers should work out to about 4.8 per season and that Mika's brother is his agent now. That could throw a bit of a monkey wrench into the works as his brother appears to be a bit of a pitbull, at least from what I have heard from him. Also as Mika's older brother he should be even more aggressive when it comes to negotiating the contract with the relatively savvy and time tested NYR staff.

I'd rather they keep one more year for sake of depth. Him and Holden get verbally abused often but together as a third pair I would not have any issue with perhaps with some second pair duty sprinkled in at times.

I agree in that keeping Staal another year also reduces the buy out cost. Buying out BOTH he and DG is a tough pill to swallow after all.
NY can do far worse than having Staal/Holden play 3rd pairing minutes

well that sews up things nicely
5 years at almost 27 million for Zibanejad or 5.35 megabucks per season
Larry Brooks over at the Post is all over this story

“It’s something I was hoping would happen,” Zibanejad said on a conference call. “I’m so happy the deal was done. I love playing in New York. I’m so excited to be staying for the next five years.”

Brooks is now talking about how NY can possibly fit Leafs center Bozak onto the Rangers roster and suggests that Gorton give Marc Staal his walking papers.
not sure I agree with this decision.
Someone had to be bought out between Girardi and Staal. With DG now a Lightning I think it doesn't make much financial sense to now go ahead and cut Staal as well.
I am already on record saying that of the two I would have preferred NY cut Staal over DG so I understand the feeling behind cutting Marc.
Does NY really cut BOTH guy ?
TSN went with Holden being available, but I think thats mostly hot air as his contract is affordable and he is pegged for the 3rd pairing. A nice fit there for him.

it would be a total 180 to the route Gorton has been going to bring 30 year old Bozak on board. He clearly wants to reduce average age of team overall and that's not how it is done. There's every indication that they think Lias Andersson can make this team right now and I would rather bring him in now and let him bud.

I agree.
Perhaps Brooks is back into trying to sell fish wrap or is focused on how NY cuts BOTH Girardi AND Staal.
I believe his thinking is that NY needs a defensive draw specialist because Zibanejad will be used on the offensive side of the puck. Bozak fits that bill, but I suspect there are quite a few other players out there that can get the job done as well.
Its all the hot air and that TSN is saying that NY is JUST under the cap, the Leafs on the other hand appear to OVER the cap. LOL At least they named the source of the rumor.
Talk about a motivated seller
I would prefer going into camp that one of Boo or Lias takes the job. Or NY bites the bullet and moves JT over to the pivot spot

Desharnais is severely underrated in the faceoff circle he may be a midget but dude wins draws. I agree with G being the buyout solely because of age, Staal has lost a step no doubt but his positioning is still USUALLY great he knows he lacks wheels but has the reach a la Hedman on most. Boo is the safe solution but I really want to see this Lias kid apparently he is relentless like an Arvidsson.
