    Default Laich for Gonchar

Was just offered Sergei Gonchar for my Brooks Laich. Its a points league. Goals 3, assists 2 and everything else pretty standard. I'm leaning towards taking it but I'm a little worried about Gonchar in ottawa. Any thoughts?

If by "pretty standard" you mean positions matter, sounds like a great buy low for you.

ya, my bad, shoulda provided more info. Scoring is relatively standard. Its a 14 team league where we start 3LW,3C, 3RW, 6 Dmen and 3 util, so its pretty deep. It definitely would be helpful though to get gonchar when dmen are so scarce.

He won't produce to his Pittsburgh standards, obviously, but I would pounce on that.

I have to say I like Laich in this one. Gonchar is passed his prime and Laich seems to be on the upswing. Not to mention he plays on the most threatening offensive team in the league.

Can you post your team and league settings (including number of teams)?

Quick reply, though, would be that take the deal! Here's the thinking:

You start 3LW and 6 D. Let's assume now that there are 10 teams, i.e. there are 30 x LW starters and 60 x D starters. Let's project that Gonchar is top-10 D (easily IMO) and Laich is top-20 LW (points only as you did not include cats). The points difference between top-10 D to top-60 D is HUGE when compared to difference between top-20 LW to top-30 LW. In other words, Gonchar is so much more valuable than Laich in your league.

Edit: sorry missed your settings for goals and assists (3 for G and 2 for A)! Still I say that Gonchar is more valuable and recommend you accepting the trade.

If you are not convinced, take a look at www.hockeypoolgeek.com

Agree with most of the others here. Gonchar won't match his Pitts numbers but will still put up good numbers.
