He has a 1 way so he has to be waived to go to the minors.

one-way and two-way contracts have exactly nothing to do with whether or not a player has to clear waivers before being sent down.
GO WINGS!
Mind explaining then sentium?
Same answer as always: http://www.nhlscap.com/waivers.htm
Why that is such a common factoid, I have no idea, but it has absolutely no substance whatsoever.

so does he get picked up by another team or what?

Oh. I guess that's why 9 game "try outs" are so common huh.
So does that mean one/two way contracts just effect how much you get paid in each league?
Exactly, just the pay.

I believe that's why so many people see 1-way deals and waivers the way they do, sentium. The way the media speak of a 1-way deal (ie. the guy will be playing for the nhl club instead of the minors) leads people to believe teams won't send them down in fear of losing them on waivers.
1-way deal just means that even if the club sends them down, they make a lot of money lol

I think it's largely due to the fact that hardly anyone on a 1-way contract is waiver exempt. Almost every single player in NHL who is under a 1-way contract will also have to pass waivers in order to be demoted to AHL. I can't think of an any example of a player with a 1-way contract and who is also waiver exempt.
Can't see anyone picking up Greiss. There isn't any team in need of an NHL goaltender right now and no one will pick up Greiss just to send him to their AHL team as he would have to pass waivers again before they could do that. And Sharks would probably pick him up in that case as they could then send Greiss to AHL without him having to be placed on waivers for a third time.
