I would say Neuvirth. I actually have both of them in my pool along with halak and howard! anyways, neuvirth will get more starts because the capitals said that he will start their first game. I will go for him then.
Who is going to have the better year, and would help more from a fantasy standpoint? Right now it looks like Neuvirth should get a lot more work.
As an owner of both, I think Neuvirth is going to have the better year this season. Their equal talents, but Neuvy's on a better team.

As an owner of Quick and Varlamov I hate this question. I hope that neither of Neuvirth or Bernier will get more than 12 starts all this season. LOL
Long term I think you go Neuvirth. He's on a team that has Ovie signed long term and seems to be the fav to take over the starter's role.
Bernier with out a doubt. LA just gave him a 2 year extension, the writing is on the wall and with every start Bernier plays will be a better win for the Kings. Don't get me wrong Quik is a good goalie but not a great goalie. When push comes to shove and you need to win those tight games against the Juggernaut teams. Johnathan Bernier is the one who will get the job done.

I'm well aware of Neuvirths' deal. I just don't see Varly being pushed away I don't think we have a Kari Let-ten-in injury situation here.

I don't get why people would just pick the goalie on the Capitals? They are not a defense-oriented team, which leaves their goalies hanging out to dry quite often. LA has a much better defense (on paper, at least) and Bernier is a much more talented goalie.
Step back - which goalie would you rather have on your team in a real-life setting? That's the guy I'd go with. To me, that's Bernier.
Unless they both have the same skill at pre-game ping pong this is just plain crazy talk. Bernier is far superior to Neuvirth when it comes to the position and will be a top 5 goalie in the league - Neuvirth will always be playing a platoon style 1a/1b regardless of where he ends up playing. Take Bernier, long term and this season.
There are things known, and things Unknown. In between are The Doors...
I hear ya but last year the Caps only won 8 more games than the Kings. The Kings are getting better and I can see them winning 50 games this year. The Caps probably don't win 54 again - more like 50. And in the following years, they are both probably 50 win teams. So you take the better talent, right? well, yeah you said you do :-)

It doesn't need to be a Kari Lehtonen type injury. If Neuvirth can get a bunch of starts in a row, and play well, he will force Boudreau and McPhee to keep going with the hot hand. Holtby is also a name that Dobber and Goldie have mentioned a lot as a the guy who could end up being the starter in Washington before too long. But, although most people are saying they would go with Neuvirth, being on Washington seems to be the reason for it. Why are the LA Kings not getting any respect? I they are very comparable to the Caps, in many ways, and I would say they may have a better D as well. All this said, I go with with Neuvirth this year, but Bernier is the long term stud in LA LA land. Watch out for those Kings!

Really? Crazy talk? I'm not denying that Bernier is a stud in waiting. I think he's a top 5 goalie when he gets time. Yet, I am saying that I think Neuvirth also has a skill-set that will allow him to get near the top 10. Better yet, he's got the mental characteristics that'll help him become a top 5 on a team which will rack up the wins. Maybe I'll end up being wrong, but having watched and read a lot on both, it's definitely my read on them both. Is Bernier safer? Yes. Yet, I think Neuvy will work enough to get there. He was the Calder Cup MVP, beating Bernier in the finals and outperforming him.
None of us have a crystal ball, but we do have how they've performed so far. I still stick to what I said. I like Neuvirth better this year, and I think they're a wash long-term.
