    Default Kovalchuk RW/LW in yahoo

Kovalchuk just got RW in yahoo.

Yahoo is doing some interesting things this year so far. I can't quite put my finger on it but it seems different.

    Yeah, I saw that.

I find this one weird though. They took a while to give some players their real position and after only one day of camp, Kovalchuk is already a RW.

I think this puts him above Parise in one year rankings. Might get lesser points (I see it pretty evenly), but the difference in dual eligibility speaks for itself. I'd still draft D. Sedin over him though

Whoppee - I more RW to choose from and Pavelski isn't a center.

Ouch..to all Non-Kovi owners. I can see this dul eligibility killing me this year.

You have to figure they'll take that away unless he sticks there. It's 1 day of camp, you can't base eligibility on that.

I believe Yahoo never take positions away. Once a player has a position he has it all year. They only add new positions.

Yahoo is ridiculous with how the determine player positions.

Heatley is RW/LW as well, yet all of last year when he basically played RW, he was only LW.

    It seems totally random.

In Yahoo's defence, in the past I wouldn't call them 'ridiculous' just 'ridiculously slow' when it comes to player positions. However the Kovalchuk thing and to a lesser extent Dustin Byfuglien getting D eligibility already seems to go against how they normally operate. If they are going to react to first day training camp lines or coach interviews on possible line combos they should probably be giving dual eligibility to about 60 players today.

I think that they can't do anything to make all poolies happy but at least if they are consistent they could defend their position.

Edit: of course if they give Malkin a wing position tomorrow I will probably stop complaining so much.

Well... to be honest guys... this really doesn't do much of anything in my opinion. It's one thing if an outstanding center or RW get's LW eligibility, but who cares if an outstanding LW get's RW eligibility?

With LW traditionally very shallow, who in their right mind wouldn't play kovalchuk at LW and instead play him at RW? I'd bet that only 5% of kovy owner's actually make good use of this eligibility addition this season because of the relative "surplus" at RW.

If malkin gets LW status, or Heatley gets LW status, that's huge (because you can replace the vacant center or RW slot they leave open)... Kovy getting RW status really won't help much if you ask me.

It probably has something to do with how high a player's profile is. Somebody like Oshie, for example, played on the wing most of last year and is still listed as C in Yahoo.

I respectfully disagree... Since I just drafter Kovie in a one-year league last night I am ecstatic. It just means that on the nights that I happen to have all my LWs playing and few of my RWs it allows me that much more flexibility.

That being said, I do agree that seeing a RW or C gain LW status is more beneficial. But one of my players gaining status for another position is never an event I will meet with indifference.
    Without me, it's only "aweso".

I'm a Kovy owner so I'm thrilled but like Lanky said, the LW is way more important than the RW.

By bigger question is he played there in a practice in the pre-season - so they just gave him RW eligibility?

While Oshie, who played RW pretty much all of last season is still only C. And many other players have scenarios like Oshie. Just weird.

Wow Natgeo, missed your post - let's bombard yahoo with requests for Oshie's dual eligibility.
We get one of these - Don't waste it.

yeah i mean... as an owner, you should be happy... but I was suggesting that opponents (who don't own kovy) shouldn't be all that upset (in the grande scheme)... because seriously... 9 times out of 10 (maybe even more), you'll likely have him playing LW anyways...

I mean, we aren't talking about 2006-07 brind'amour gaining LW eligibility in a league that counts face off wins here... I don't imagine Kovy's change will have a vast impact on the results of the league... If anything, it will probably help you the most in terms of your depth in the case of injuries (you'd have the flexibility to add the best player available between LWs or RWs if a RW gets injured). But that's... a very small advantage if you ask me...

BTW, what's your LW RW depth look like in that league mate (if you don't mind me asking)?
