I'm not so sure it's a guarantee Rinne has capable competition.
Given all will have capable competition.
Rinne, but I think Hiller has a chance to be close. I think I am the only guy on here that thinks Varlamov is the backup this year.
WOW!!! Everyone has voted for Rinne.
I also chose Rinne because I think he'll play so many games down the stretch after the olympic break that it will just barely push him over Hiller and then Varlamov.
Rinne I believe is also the streakiest goalie on the list and most durable. In Nashville he's coming off a season where he flat-out took the starting job from another competitive goalie. He had to work a lot harder for his minutes than Hiller and Varlamov did.
Tough to choose between Hiller and Rinne. I think then I asked myself, "which backup is more capable of returning to their top form this season, Giguere or Ellis?"
Then I realized that Giguere at the top of his game is much different than Ellis at the top of his game. Very different goalies with different abilities...so it was really tough to say for sure. Ellis was wrongfully dubbed a struggling goalie last year and yeah I started over-complicating it. HAHA
