Green-Malkin Trade.

This is a salary capped keeper league. Basically you can keep as many players as you want next year, as long as their total salary is UNDER $25.

EVERY PLAYER\'S SALARY INCREASE BY 20 CENTS PER YEAR...

My team is in my sig.

One possible trade is that I send...
Green ($0.55) - keeper
Versteeg ($0.25) - keeper
Stajan ($0.45) - keeper
Cheechoo ($1.30) - most likely a dropper

for

Malkin ($1.20) - keeper
Semin ($1.85) - getting up there in price, but would keep
Sykora ($1.05) - borderline dropper
Rafalski ($1.70) - getting up there in price, but would keep

What do people think? Am I taking on to much salary to get Malkin?

Also, if I keep Green my situation next year would be:

I would have $4.50 to fill out my roster...2 LWers, 4 RWers, and 4 D-Men....

I would probably drop...
Alfredsson, Cheechoo, Bernier, Mair, Tkachuk, Bouchard, Sekera, Carle, Mitchell, Commodore
...to drop enough salary.

If I do the trade, then:

I would have to drop pretty much the same people except Sykora instead of Cheechoo...then I would have $1.00 to fill the same positions....

I know nothing about salary cap leagues. But if you can get Malking for less than Cheechoo salary wise - do the deal.

Not sure how you guys determine the salary value for each player, but it seems a bit off to me.

Sure you are taking on extra salary, I assume with this trade you will still be under your salary limit. Looking at the players you are giving up versus what you are getting, I would say you must be challenging for a money spot or you wouldn\'t be doing this. In that case, it\'s a good deal because it will help you win.

Oh great, you added more to the post after I had already started my reply.

I am officially lost now and I am afraid my lack of experience in salary cap league is no help to you anymore.

You are improving on all the forwards and Rafalski for Green is not terrible stats-wise.

However, that would crush your cap room for next season. If it\'s auction plus 0.20/yr you really have to consider what you can get on your limited dime. Green will not cost what Rafalski does for 6 years, which you know is of massive value.

Players are either drafted midseason or when they are in junior or auctioned off to the highest bidder...

For example; I drafted John McFarland (from the 2010 draft) earlier this year...he costs 50 cents (but juniors do not count against the cap)....He will increase by 10 cents per year until I activate him (He then will increase by 20 cent like every other player).

Malkin was a junior draft...and hence why he is only $1.20 at this time...

I was lucky enough to bid 35 cents for Green at the beginning of last season (He is 55 cents now)

I acquired Versteeg at the midseason draft where I \"drafted him into\" a 25 cent slot...so he costs 25 cents this year, 45 cents next, etc...

Cheech is way too much for what he has given me; he has been on my roster for 4 years and all he does is taunt me....ughh!

Hence the dilemma. In another type of league, if I could get Malkin...I wouldn\'t hesitate...Malkin and Crosby? Whooo-Hooo!!

Well, you said after this trade you will have to fill 10 spots for next season with $1.00 - is that even possible?

I would have to get lucky with a few picks...

I drafted Eriksson this year for 25 cents (the minimum bid) but I also got stuck with gems like Winchester and Sheppard for 25 cents...so it\'s a crap shoot.

The figures above ($4.50 & $1.00) include the minimum 25 cents I need to fill a slot. So, in reality, that would be my maximum bid for a player...so I could get one player at $1 and nine at 25 cents...or...two players at 50 cents and eight at 25 cents....and so on...

With $4.50, I would have enough to get two star players at about $2.25 each depending on what is available....

With $1.00, I would probably have to wait until the end of the auction and pick up the scraps...

Aw man, that is a tougher call then.

Really, I think I would have a tough time with this deal even with Malkin coming back. You\'ve got a remarkable asset on D locked up cheap, and I might want to use that extra cash to build an even wider base.

However, you would be really loaded for next season and able to create lots of cap space for the one after...

I guess if you think you can get better than scraps at the draft, this deal makes you the favourite for next season and you should do it.
