Wrong. Building a widespread hydrogen production/distribution infrastructure will never be practical, it's a 'pipe dream' by those dreaming of extending the life of fossil fuels by other means.

It's as easy as ever to buy a car, but I doubt it's ever been harder to make a wise long term investment in one. I believe NA still are heavy into petrol cars, SUVs or trucks, but in Europe cities are starting to ban fossil cars in the central areas. There's a heavy political push toward EVs, just like there was a heavy push toward Ethanol a decade or so ago.

I'm still on a diesel vehicle - an Audi A3 to be exact, but it's been driven close to 18000 km, and I'm looking around to potentially getting something newer.
Part of me wants a petrol still and I'd probably prefer it somewhat analog in contrast to what appears to be coming - subscription services for all kinds of digital uplink and luxuries. Otoh, I hate to support the oil industries and most nations which produce oil.

If you're about to get a new car - what's your thought process like? EVs are starting to get cheaper. Do you already own a Tesla or similar? A hybrid?

Smartest thing might be to just hold on to your old car as long as possible, and get a new bike.
My wife and I own 2 Teslas and live/drive in the Edmonton climate year round no problem. Fits our lifestyle perfectly. After spending $10K a year on fuel on our previous ICE vehicles, and when gas was 'only' around $1/L, we will never go back to ICE.

a base model 2024 crv with the L15 engine (1.5 turbo) is around 39 k . the 2024 crv ''sport'' trim hybrid is 49 k . (hst , freight+pdi likely not included with those prices)

I'd wonder if you make up that difference in fuel savings if you kept the crv hybrid for lets say 10 years .

    Only time will tell.

I'm putting my money behind something (may not be hydrogen) other than what Electric is now.
It makes more sense to start with implementing Hydrogen in the Transportation industry. As big trucks tend to be point A to point B limits the need for a wide spread net of stations.

So hydrogen there and EV for commercial use is a combination I see it heading towards. Just not a chance I'd get an EV right now, wayyy too expensive.

At least Alberta isn't so heavily powered by Coal now.

Idk where you getting those numbers they seem high. And I know I wouldn't make up the difference with a hybrid, but others likely would.

the difference in price is not necessarily fuel engine to hybird engine. Its standard trim to sport trim. There could be others but as far as i know Toyota is only one to offer hybird in standard trims so difference in price is not that big as its apples to apples. Im quite sure that if you wanted fuel only CRV in sport trim it would be much closer to 49 than 39k.

where most manufacturers get you, is the fact that you need to upgrade trim if you go hybird.

Ya true, my vehicle is L trim as base, and Hybrid starts at LE trim (in whatever lettering they use for hybrid).

I didn't want the LE trim as I didn't want push button start or powered adjustable seats.
Hybrid also only comes in AWD, which I didn't want either, wanted FWD.

All these numbers are for AWD

    Corolla Cross MSRP:
    L (base) trim: $29,050.00
    LE trim: $31,090.00
    LE (SE Hybrid) trim: $34,590.00
    34,590 - 31090 = $3500 more for the Hybrid.
    HR-V MSRP:
    LX-B (base) trim: $31,260.00
err don't think there's hybrid's for these. Dammit!

    Rav4 MSRP:
    LE (base) trim: $33,150.00
    LE (XLE Hybrid) trim: $35,950.00
    $35,950.00-$33,150 = $2,800 more for the Hybrid.
    CR-V MSRP:
    EX-L trim: $44,275.00
    EX-L (Hybrid): $46,775.00
    $46,775.00 - $44,275.00 = $2500

    2024 CRV EX-L = $46,411.00
    2024 CRV EX-L Hybrid = $48,906.50
    Difference = $2,495.50 for Hybrid.

    Non-Hybrid: 27mpg/32mpg highway
    Hybrid: 40mpg/34mpg highway

    Non-Hybrid cost/500km ($1.70/L): $74.05/$62.48 ----- avg $68.27
    Hybrid cost/500km ($1.70/L): $49.98/$58.80 ---------- avg $54.39
    Difference = $13.88

$2,495.50/$13.88 = 180 fill ups. But obviously changes based on your driving styles, as if you were city driving it would take 104 fill ups before it makes a difference.

yeah aobut right, this was smilar for my RAV 4.

When i got my 2016 RAV (new) i looked at hybird at that time, difference was almost 60% in cost...now it almost makes no sense buying same vehicle in fuel only...but again, there are much cheaper fuel only options, they are just not the same even if name of a car/track is.

honda canada site doesnt have a hybrid CRV ''sport'' trim . I must have been watching U.S based youtube reviews where I'm assuming theres a ''sport hybrid'' trim

the entry level hybrid in which I quoted 55,300 (HST / FREIGHT INCLUDED) is an EXL HYBRID

It's $2500 difference before tax. Can't take final price as fees (freight, PDI etc.) are different
