Hamilton won’t help you this year. But next year and behind, he is my choice
Hi all,
In a pts only league, I have one spot left for one of these three and will try to trade the others for some picks: Carlson, Hamilton or Toews
Which one do you keep?
Thanks

Same for me.
Hamilton is the best of the bunch imo.

Tough choice, three veteran D men who have had, to varying degree's obviously, very solid fantasy value over the years.
My biggest concern is with Carlson. Now at age 34 his numbers have been declining for a few years now and it is pretty clear that the Washinton offensive machine that once existed is no more and I think Carlson's numbers will continue to fall off. I think he is a 50 pt guy this year but those numbers remain the same at best but likely fall over the course of the remaining 2 years of his current contract.
Toews is kind of the Steady Eddie of the bunch. Stays healthy and you can confidently count on him for 50 pts and at the age of 30 and with a new contract he will be very serviceable for years to come. He won't threaten PPG however. Lower ceiling but a nice safe floor.
Hamilton had a 72 pt season last year. He is 30 years old and signed for 4 more years at 9 Mil. He has earned it, the contract supports it and the Devils PP1 is his for the next few years IMO ... IF he stays healthy. Overall Hamilton has not missed a lot of time to injury, but it seems when he does go down he goes down for the better part of a season. This is a concern. However, the upside arguably balances out the risk.
My choice is Hamilton, I'm OK with the risk given the potential reward. If you are a bit risk adverse, then maybe Toew's is the more comfortable choice.

My preference is Hamilton.
Carlson is slowing down as is Washington as they look to rebuild/retool during Ovechkins swan song days.
Toews is safe and consistent. Makar is still the pp guy.
Hamilton has shown what he can do. He also has the contract which I think helps keep L.Hughes at bay on pp1.

Well indeed Hamilton’s value is at its lowest right now and has a much higher celling while the two others are still serviceable and safe at best but not great asset anymore. I will try to sell them.
Thanks

Hamilton is the "best" but I think his days as PP1 QB are over in New Jersey. Yes, he has the big contract, but the Devils are going to want to keep Jack Hughes happy, which means little brother Luke probably has the inside track on PP1. Remember that Luke had already mostly supplanted Hamilton on the top unit even before the latter got hurt.
I'd still take PP2 Hamilton over the aging Carlson and the less talented Toews, but in your shoes, I'd try to trade all three, especially Hamilton, as you'll have a good chance of finding someone who's willing to pay for him as if he'll be a 70+ point player again next year.

I would probably keep Hamilton as I think his upside is highest of the three, but I would also be concerned about his future production with Luke Hughes, and eventually Nemec, plus his injury history.
