Adding DeSmith

Yahoo H2H keeper league. Goalie stats W SV SV% SO

Playoffs start next week March 11-17, but I have a BYE in round 1 so starts don't matter that week. My starts will be concerned with matchups during week 24 (Mar 18-24) and week 25 (Mar 25-31).

Current goalies: Shesterkin, Otter, Grubauer

Waiver wire available G: DeSmith, Forsberg, Mrazek, Soderblom, Wedgewood (for platoon) and pretty much all the other backups (except no Quick, Broissoit, and Stolarz)

With Demko banged up, I am considering adding DeSmith for the playoff run as my #4. I could add another skater instead, but I have crunched my numbers for forward/def positions and there isn't much quality for the starts I could get. Week 25 is particularly bad for scheduling since every team basically plays Tues Thur Sat that week, so I think adding some possible goalie starts down the stretch is the way to go.

Dallas doesn't have any B2B in those 2 weeks so I don't think adding Wedgewood to platoon makes sense. DeSmith is intriguing because of the opportunity to step in, but Demko's situation isn't clear yet and I only have until 11:59 PM pacific to do adds for the playoffs. Do I take the gamble on DeSmith? Or should I take someone like Mrazek or Forsberg who will likely get around 50% of their team's starts?

you do not need four goalies yet alone three IMO. Igor and Oett is a combo prob none of your opponents can match. Stream starts if even necessary. Quantity should be part of the game whether or not the options aren't stellar as far as F/D.

I didn’t make clear that add drops are locked for my leagues playoffs. So having the 4 goalies helps ensure I have starts each week. Generally I don’t roll 4 and just stream when needed but not the case.

I ended up adding DeSmith just in case. Seems to have worked out since Thatcher is out 2-4 weeks which is pretty much the entire playoff run for my league.
