Bad or good idea - improve my D

Hi all,

I don’t like my defs squad. Outside Hamilton and Sanderson, for the future, they all look the same and not elite: Toews, Weegar, Carlson, Gostisbehere. I also have Jiricek. Any upside for him on the long term? Not sure.

I am looking how I can improve them. Is it an overpayment to trade either Stutzle or Robertson for two of McAvoy, Seider and Power.

It can also be one on one with other options but young elite def are difficult to get.

You didnt provide enough league info so ill assume its multicat league....would also help to see rest of your forward group.

First of all i dont think your D is bad, Weegar is very underrated and Carlson is still very good for a while imo. Towes is also very serviceable specially as 5th D.

Value wise i dont think its horrible trade but i love both Sutzle and Robertson myself...if i have to choose i would keep Stutzle and keep JR. Personally i would stick with what i have as i think your D is very good unless its like 10 team league or less. Even then, its serviceable.

I've been saying this a lot lately, but I think Hamilton takes a step back next year. So I wouldn't consider him a lock. Luke Hughes probably gets PP1 for the Devils, meaning Hamilton and Nemec will be on PP2. I'm also not a big fan of McAvoy, his point production is very dependent on his teammates, and who knows what the Bruins roster will look like next year. Power doesn't interest me because he's buried behind Dahlin in Buffalo. Seider is interesting, but only if the Red Wings don't bring in another PP specialist and give him PP1 next year. Since we have way of knowing what will happen, he's too much of a risk in points only. I'm a big fan of Jiricek, but I think he needs a trade to realize his value. The Blue Jackets have a very crowded D-corps and the team is just a mess in general.

So, I would not make the trade you mention, but I would look to trade Hamilton away.
