Default AHL production - Stankoven comparison

Stankoven is having an exceptional rookie year in the AHL. I was personally curious to see how his production compared to the best rookies performances of previous years.

    Here's the answer:

This is cool, thanks for sharing.

It's interesting that Rantanen is the only player on this list to reach point-per-game status by his second NHL season. Not that that's easy to do, but still interesting to see. In fact, I think he's the only one from this list with a PPG season in general. I'll confidently predict that Stankoven will join him within a few years.

Almost all of those guys have ended up being good but not great. I like Stankoven a lot, but this list doesn't mean that he'll be a star (aside from being drafted by them)
    Team 1:
J Hughes, Cooley (r), Bratt, Laine, M Tkachuk, Necas, A Svechnikov, S Jarvis, M Michkov (r), W Johnston, Zegras, Giroux, Norris, Couturier, B Jenner, T Krug, Burns, M Weegar, Werenski, Sergachev, B Clarke (r), Theodore, Sorokin , Oettinger, Askarov (r), Ersson
    12 teams, No salary cap
Keep 14 plus 4 rookies (under 150 GP) max 18 players
    Scoring: G (1), A (1), +/- (0.25), H (0.1), B(0.1), PIM (0.1), SOG (0.1), GWG (1), PPP (1), SHP (1),
    Goalies: W (2), SO (3), GA (-0.5), OTL (1), SV (0.1)

very few star players ever play in the AHL so it's hard to draw meaning from any of those numbers.

That said, it doesn't take anything away from Stankoven who, along with Bourque, is having a phenomenal season and will be a great NHLer at some point.
    12 team, H2H, salary cap
    1 pt/G or A, 2 pts/W, 1 pt/OTL, 1 pt/SO

    Forward: B. Point, M. Necas, A. Debrincat, T. Zegras, J. Bratt, L. Raymond
    Defense: J. Morrissey, A. DeAngelo, S. Gostisbehere, D. Doughty
    Goalie: T. Demko, E. Merzlikins
    Bench: M. Rossi, C. Glass, M. Maccelli, M. Dumba, K. Shattenkirk, F. Andersen
Prospects of Note: L. Stankoven, J. Lekkerimaki, D. Yurov, B. Clarke

League has been running continuously since 1997-98

It's nothing but a great sign for Stankoven & Bourque that they are doing so well.
Tough part is separating which is the better or whether they are both very good.
(I, admittedly, had this problem back when Palat-T.Johnson-Kucherov were with the junior Lightning... yeesh.)

The outlier on the comparison list is Rantanen - who got AHL exception as a Euro and was permitted to play there age 18/19.
The rest of the North American crew is the AHL required 20+ crowd... and most of the guys have gone on to be 50-70pt type NHLers.
    So... that's great news.
[Interesting to note that Vatrano is blossoming quite late - though I think his previous teams' just didn't give him the needed opportunity for big minutes and PPTOI.]

Dallas is absolutely stacked 4 lines deep right now... so it was to DAL' benefit to give Stankoven & Bourque top line minutes there.
The Stars have Pavelski/Duchene/C.Smith all at UFA sumers of ages 40/33/34... so none or few (maybe Pavelski, maybe Duchene if Pavs retires) will be back.
This should open up big space for Stankoven & Bourque.

I had my own doubts on whether Stankoven's WHL dominant game would translate to a men's league.
    But it seems... it has.

    Good news for owners.
I see no reason to assume Stankoven will be a 60pt+ player in his 4th-6th years in the NHL, which will start next year.
    Likely same for Bourque
