Called up to Red Wings. Can't trade him now with the injuries.

A goal and 2 blocked shots (he must've read my post!! jk) in 8:30 TOI with the team down 3 players in their top 9. Not sure what else he could've done to get a few more minutes last night as no one showed up to play (Veleno and Copp played over 20 mins each when neither should be playing more than 15, imho)... something really isn't adding up in DET.

Peng is onto something regarding not being a Stevie Y product unfortunately... he's not in the Motown Yzerplan.

Deserves 15+ mins a night with 2+ mins on the PP in the NHL.

Another goal, +2 and 3 blocked shots in ~6 min of TOI so far tonight.

    Down 4-3 in the 3rd.

Meanwhile, Veleno is -3 in 15 mins of TOI... make it make sense.

EDIT/UPDATE: Big comeback win. In Stevie we trust.

I'd say he has until the end of next season to really give the Yzerplan a fair shake and see how Stevie's latest batch of young players (Edvinsson, Danielson, Kasper, Mazur, ASP) integrate into the team.

Currently ranked second in goals scored across the league, the defensive systems clearly require another season of development (29th in CORSI) and securing a true #1 goalie is also crucial for future success.

End of day, it's Steve Yzerman. I'd say he realistically has another 2-3 years to get the team into the playoffs before his feet are really up against the fire.

Berggren got the short end of the stick with the influx of forwards DET brought in lately.

I'm also curious what the market is for him and if DET could've maximized the return at the draft/prior to free agency when a team could've viewed the transaction as acquiring a young top 9 winger with upside rather than overpaying for a UFA or getting a fading vet during free agency.
