Surprised Chapman got a QO. I wont lie, I am hoping he declines it. Great defensive 3B but his bat was a non-issue after the first month. This team needs offense.

How about that coaching shuffle yesterday. Ross out as Cubs manager after getting support from GM at the end of the season, then they hire Craig Counsell and give him a record high $8M per season to run the club. Before he signed that deal, the highest paid manager in MLB was $4.5M.
10 Team, Points Only, Cash League

25 Man Roster (no position), top 20 point getters count at end of month
Keep 20/25 at seasons end, Cut 5 to FA for redrafting
    Goalie points W=2pt L=-1pt SHO=2pt

Stamkos, Tavares, Eichel, Mercer, JRobertson, RThomas, Kucherov, Nugent-Hopkins, Tuch, KConnor, Necas, Point, Konecny, SJarvis, Cozenz, Morrissey, Bouchard, Josi, Novak, Tolvanen, Peterka, Brink

    G- Vasilevskiy, Sorokin, Oettinger

Chapman is like the only 3B option on FA. At 31yrs old when the season starts, he's likely looking at a 4+yr deal. And with the deals previous 3B have gotten, I can see a 6yr $25-$30m AAV for some team that has no 3B option in their system.

It's like Chapman and Candelario really as the options.

    Jays offseason needs:
OF: My guess is you move Varsho to CF, and get a more offensive LF. Springer/Varsho are strong enough to offset a slightly bad LF. Bellinger could fit (move Springer to LF), and have Bellinger as your backup 1B with Biggio as a full util.
3B: I think you look internally here. Biggio, Espinal, Schneider, O.Martinez, Barger.
2B: Internal again. Biggio, Espinal, Schneider
1B: You look at a backup. Hoskins, Choi, or someone like that. I feel like Hoskins will be too expensive though. Votto could be an option too.

SP: I think you should explore Kikuchi's trade value. It could help you improve elsewhere. Tiedemann could be an option, but I think he's too soon to expect to bring up. You would need to sign someone if you move Kikuchi. Gausman, Bassit, Manoah, Berrios, Kikuchi, White, Tiedemann, Zulueta are really the only SPs in their system. You can't overly spend in FA as it would block Tiedemann. Maybe like a Lugo, Lorenzen, Manaea, Odorizzi.

RP: Would be nice to get a big name, but I think Chad Green is that big name.

I think the roster is pretty sound, I think it's hitting approach is the issue. If you get Bellinger as the big name and that's it, I'm A-OK with that.

Well confirmed that Guillermo Martinez is coming back as the hitting coach, and Don Mattingly will have an increased role in the offense. Which I don't know what scares me more, the guy who made everyone have a bad offensive yr (compared to talent) coming back or the guy who is anti-HR getting an expanded role.

i think everybody just needs to relax, this team is much better than they played past year. They need big bat in middle of the order but i would not make many more changes. If they flip whole team around again they risking similar issues next year

They need a big bat, and the big bats that they are supposed to have already step up and start producing. I think their team leader in HRs last year was Vladdy with something like 26? I didnt go look but I think I remember hearing that recently. 26HRs is your team leader. That is not good.

no its not good, but point is its all in the clubhouse..they just need to produce as they can. But yeah one big bat in middle is needed.

Rumoured that the Jays want to upgrade their lineup with 1-4 bats this offseason.

Sounds like they are aware that they overreacted to poor defense and are looking at offense getting injected back into the lineup. So pretty much means they'll be the "Jays were a close second" in getting Bellinger, Ohtani, Soler, and a Soto trade.

All seven players who were given a qualifying offer declined them today.

Shohei Ohtani, Cody Bellinger, Matt Chapman, Aaron Nola, Blake Snell, Josh Hader and Sonny Gray will now be attached to draft-pick compensation.

I don't see Chapman getting $20M as FA but who knows. Same for Bellinger.

Chapman will get it I think. He's the only 3B of note really, and his agent can play teams off of that. The 3B that got deals recently are insane, and don't seem to work out, but it keeps happening.

Bellinger same thing. Guy is going to get a big deal.

RIP to the Padres owner though. He is the type of owner you want in a way, but maybe a bit aggressive on the "win now" mode. His passing could create a bit of rocky ground on which path the Padres will take this offseason.

Baseball tends to get it's activity going in December during the winter meetings.

And to note, the most recent GMs meeting ended early because like a dozen members of the meeting got food poisoning. So I'm sure some leg work gets done there, then the final stuff gets done at the winter meetings.

Baseball always waits for the first domino too it seems like. So every FA is waiting on Ohtani, Yamamoto, and Nola to make a decision. Baseball takes it's time. Corey Seager signed his monster deal Nov29th, 2021. Trea Turner signed Dec8th, 2022. George Springer signed his deal with Toronto in like Jan2021 (COVID backed up stuff though).

I hope they come up 2nd as they do with every top FA.
