    Default IIHF ruling on Fedotov

Based on the evidence provided to the IIHF by the involved parties, the IIHF has determined that Ivan Fedotov has a valid NHL Contract with the Philadelphia Flyers Hockey Club for the 2023/2024 season. Accordingly, the IIHF has determined that Ivan Fedotov was in breach of a Professional Player Contract per Article II.4.1 of the IIHF International Transfer Regulations when he signed a contract with CSKA hockey club for the 2023/2024 season.

It remains to be seen if the decision is honored by CSKA and Fedotov.

He now has 2 weeks to join the Flyers in order not to be sanctioned.

Albeit missing a year - Fedotov is one of the best goalies worldwide currently not playing in the NHL

I remember when Koskinen was one of the better goalies not playing in the KHL and was probably pretty close to Fedotov's age when he finally came across the pond and signed in Edmonton. I am not really banking much into Fedotov and his NHL career at this point. He also missed all of last year due to military service. Last playing in 2021-22, he helped lead his team to winning the Gagarin Cup, the KHL’s championship. In the regular season, he posted a 14-10-2 record and a .919 save percentage. He improved upon that in the postseason, recording a .937 save percentage over 22 games on his way to the championship victory. Good numbers, but not great numbers all things considered.

If he comes over, i think he instantly becomes Harts backup though.

After missing all of last season, I think that would be foolish on their part.

If he comes over, he's starting in the AHL to start the season at best. Ersson will be Hart's backup and to be honest, will probably steal the starting job before the trade deadline.

Because you think Hart will be traded, or because you think he´s better than Hart?

I’d go with either of these as they are both likely outcomes.

Keith Jones was just on the Bob McCown podcast on Friday and was asked who their starting goalie is today and Jones without hesitation said Carter Hart. Now does this announcement supersede that statement, maybe, but I don't see it. Fedotov's name was talked about on the podcast too but again, that was before this information came out and Jones did briefly talk about the fact that he missed all of last year but they are still retaining his rights in the hopes he comes over, but at no point was there talk about him as the starter even if he did come over.

As I say, he missed all of last year. He's got some catching up to do as far as his playing goes, and even super-studs like Sorokin, Vasilevskiy and Sheshterkin spent some time in the AHL to adjust to the pro game on this side of the pond. I dont own a crystal ball, but common sense states that he starts in the minors to get his game back. How long that takes is up to him but I just can't see Philly slotting him as the opening starter should he come over.

    Who knows?

Apparently he played throughout his military service - just in some army league, not pro. I do agree he needs to get up to speed but I think in short order he’s the Flyers best option. If he abides by this ruling. Probably a big if.

From what I read, he was allowed on the ice twice a week with officers and cadets. Not quite KHL caliber players, let alone AHL/NHL caliber players.

No. Agreed it was nothing like full speed pro hockey.

Or, third potential option: he gets named in the 2018 Team Canada report.
