I very much doubt Gibson gets traded. I’d probably hold on the Devils tandem for now. Let the season develop a little more. If you must drop I’d probably go Reimer and Tarasov and hope Tarasov steals the net. It’s possible.

Agreed. With that contract I don't see anyone touching Gibson especially if they have to give up major assets. I just shook my head over the summer when Duck fans were saying what the cost for Gibson was. If Tarasov gets into a timeshare, he's your best choice IMO.

If "Saves" are important, then yes, you probably want to drop NJ goalies.
The NJ defense is locking down shots-against pretty well this year... with a big league-leading 21.33 shots per game.
    https://www.statmuse.com/nhl/ask?q=n...r+game+2022-23

Now... normally, what I'd say is that if a team has a "great defense" and "average goalies", they'll still only give up a few number of goals (by the math)...
    And... WIN games.

But - against - it depends if you need SV or W more.
But NJ does have a stifling defense, especially with adding John Marino (for young Ty Smith).

But... also look at NJ schedule and see if you like the coming opponents.
Personally - I think Vanecek will be the guy... but there ARE bumps for goalies playing in new situations behind new defenses.
It's going to take him a while to get the flow/pace of how the players defending in front of him move around.

He's only started & been scorched in ONE game.
Blackwood has been good... well, until last night.

So Vanecek is probably getting next start.

Wins, GAA and SV% are the 3 Goalie categories that we use (H2H). Agree with thoughts on Vanacek, and am not a believer in Blackwood.

Leaning towards dropping Blackwood and picking up Tarasov.

I would roll the dice on Gibson if you want to shake things up. Agree with keeping Vanecek for now. Vaneck and Gibson would have been my two preseason picks. If you want pure quality over quantity I might actually suggest Adin Hill.

The Devils are a tandem to avoid in most formats at this point.

They aren't winning, they aren't scoring much, they are depressing shot totals, which should help with Wins & GAA, but it's not because they goaltending has been spotty to brutal. That shot shuppression is going to make SV% highly variable, and in general lower with the goalie quality & familiarity they have.

Reimer & Stalock I see as the front runners to be the lead half of tandems or outright starters. Stalock, though is on another bad team. Tarasov is very intriguing, as he should be good and soon. Gibson should be in a tandem already, if not the backup. Hill, Nedeljkovic & Anderson also seem like lesser halves of tandems at the moment.

And then Tarasov lays an egg and Vanacek turns in a solid performance. Goalies are weird. Seems like I am chasing this year. Bad start/bench/good start while on the bench/bad start when he returns to my lineup. Seems like I should start a goalie every time after he has a bad start.

I wouldn't punt both Jersey goalies with those options

I'm not a Blackwood fan and would roll the dice on Gibson over him

Well, it looks like a few things have changed.

    1. Blackwood is hurt.
    2. Vanecek is playing better and taking over the crease
    3. The Devils are winning more.

Given this, it's clear Vanecek is the guy for the moment, and I've thought he was going to be the guy over Blackwood. Given Vanecek's likely increased volume, I think he's a safer keep now. Good luck with what you decide.

Thanks for all the feedback (will be sending out reps). I dropped Blackwood and picked up Tarasov. Some new goalies are now available on the wire…

Would you drop Tarasov and pick-up Comrie, Quick or Petersen?

Comrie for sure. Korpisalo I think just got activated, so Tarasov may be AHL bound.
