Default Halak or Nedeljkovic ROS [REP]

Evansville Icemen team in the sig.

I snagged Nedeljkovic off the wire earlier this week with the uncertainty around Shesterkin and Rask.

I now have a good problem of having 5 healthy goalies: Hellebuyck, Shesterkin, Rask, Halak & Nedeljkovic

My question is do I hold Nedeljkovic or Halak (handcuff with Rask) for the RoS?

Knowing that Nedeljkovic needs to play 8 more games after tonight and that Halak normally gets 1 or 3 starts a week for Boston, which would you prefer?

    Thanks!

    Rep for those where available.

Actually may have made this easy on myself, I'd only get 4 potential starts out of Ned between now and the end of the season where he doesn't play on the same day as my other goalies.

And that's assuming he starts over Reimer or Mrazek at that point in time.

Think I'm safer to hold Halak, but would still like to here some opinions from others.

When it comes to my depth goaltending, I prefer predictability when I can get it. Halak is pretty much solidified as a solid 1B option on a good team in Boston. And if Rask has any injury troubles, he could see more time.

Once Mrazek is back, it's hard to say what Ned's role will be. But it's hard to imagine they won't at least give Mrazek a shot to earn his job back. And no matter what happens, unless a trade is made, you're dealing with 3 NHL quality goalies fighting for ice time.

So if you are just thinking ROS, then it's definitely Halak for me. Especially since you already have Rask.

I think Halak is the right answer here, as he has a history of doing exactly what the general wisdom suggests he will do. Nedeljkovic could go full Hammond/Binnington, but there seems to be a full house of goalies in Carolina with only one net to share. It is probably best to presume Nedeljkovic will go Lankinen as opposed to Hammond for the rest of the way.

Thanks all, REP'd where I could.

I'll start Ned tonight and most likely drop him tomorrow when I'm forced to bring Rask up from IR.

I had to make a similar decsion in one league, where Halak is the only non-Jets goalie on my roster, but my option was Kahkonen.

I went with Halak simply due to the trust factor. He's a very established 1B goalie, and if he isn't back in Boston, wherever he goes he will be seen as a very established 1B goalie, who one can trust. With you having Rask, you made the right call.

This season with injuries I've been waiting until puck drop before making any drops, just incase someone gets red flagged / IR'd.

yeah RoS it has to be Halak. But definitely exciting to watch Nedlejkovic develop...has a chance to be a good one...i would not be surprised if he is THE guy in Carolina next year

News now is Canes might look into trading a goalie (Reimer most likely) so it'll be interesting for sure to see how it all plays out.

I wonder if the Avs would take Reimer at salary retained. They are after a backup goalie most likely, despite trading for JoJo (who I believe can be easily sent down)

Exactly! I thought Avs would've gone for a more veteran goalie than JoJo.. maybe cap could be an issue for Avs? Have to check.
