Big trade for 1st overall

Hello all....... it’s been quite awhile since I’ve posted...... life been busy...... anyways for team and league in sig...... was just offered this...... I’ve been bugging the holder of 1st overall for awhile now and he’s messaged me this.....

His 1st overall in our draft (Lafreniere)

For my Petterson, Gaudreau and D.STROME......

We have decided to skip this shortened season as would be a scheduling nightmare, but are still doing our draft (starting online tomorrow).......

Draft is all eligible players from 2020 entry draft and any free agents..... Lafreniere is the obvious first overall...... I also do have the 2nd overall.....

We do use actual cap hits, so with no season this year Petterson will have a big new contract 2021-22 season..... Gaudreau will be 1 year away from Ufa and STROME is awaiting a new deal as we speak......

I’m currently the champion of this league (4 yr streak also) but need to shed salary, and have been considering a rebuild for a bit now...... maybe not a full on rebuild, but are tooling in a way......

While this is a move like that giving Pettersson to me doesn’t make sense. I get salary and I have that issue in one of my leagues but salary is usually easier to deal with

I wouldn't do that. You should be able to do that deal any time during 2021 unless Lafreniere turns into the best winger in the league. I'd wait.

The thing is that the salary implications are going to be the same for months, and you guys are taking a year off. Right now, you're valuing Lafreniere like he's the next Ovechkin. I'm betting he's not the next Ovechkin, specifically that he doesn't come in and do a 50 goal 100 point pace.

I'm not saying he won't be good eventually, but think about what Jack Hughes would've gone for post-draft pre-season last year versus now, or even partway through last year. You're buying high on 100% hype, 0% production.

Rantanen for Hughes, kakko, cozens and 2nd overall........ it’s the closest I’ll ever get to fair value........ league full of vultures waiting, knowing you have cap issues...... and they offer you peanuts on the dollar....... that’s why was somewhat interested in current offer....... I’ll prob lose Petterson or Gaudreau for next to nothing
