    Default POKER?

I didn't see any threads like this around... I made a poker reference earlier today and was like, hmm... We should!

    So...

    Who plays?
    Where do you play?
    What limits?
    Biggest wins?
Any specific tourney/sit&go/cash game strategy you use?
Anyone hardcore and have links to strategy articles?
    anything else?

I played a LOT more when I was single. Played a regular weekly game with friends ($50 buy in).

Biggest win was actually online playing on Pokerstars. Won a Sit-N-Go and cashed out a little under 7k. Never had anything close to that before or since.

Nowadays, the most recent game was a few years ago. In the before time. When there were no kids.

I play in a weekly $20 tournament where there is 30-40 entrants. Haven't won in awhile. 1st is roughly $400, 2nd is roughly $150 and 3rd is roughly $20. Use to take poker serious back in 2008-2010, and 2015 but I've lost interest now. Just don't find it fun like it use to. I use to play in a $30 buy in, $20 rebuy, $50 add on, home game but I don't feel I'm playing my best game. Am scared to bluff and generally just don't like being around some people that go to poker. Some poker players that I know will lose money then ask to borrow some afterwards. There are some good players there as well, and have deeper pockets than I do so they're able to gamble a bit more than I do. I also play fairly tight and got annoyed by other players making comments "play a hand man" .... I like playing the way I do and hated when others try and tell you how to play so I stopped. Or when I make a bet there would be one guy who would always say "I think you have THIS", meanwhile there is other people in the pot .... I think that is BS trying to tip off your friends on what I have. The $20 weekly game is just for something to do and mingle a bit but not too worried about losing the $20. Highest stakes I played was 1/2 dollar blinds in a casino. Brought $200 into $600 then cashed out ... thought I was the greatest player lol. Passion for the game comes and goes but right now it's not a big priority for me.

My favorite poker moment was when I was analyzing one hand that I wasn't part of. There were two guys in the hand, I almost said outloud what I thought both guys had but I didn't want to sound like them know it alls who do that all the time so I didn't say anything ... any hoo , I put the one guy on 33 and the other guy on AK or something. Both guys had a full house. It felt pretty good to put both guys on the exact hand they had, kind of wish I said something but I didn't want to be one of "those guys" haha.

Back about 7 years ago, at our local pool hall we had a poker league and there was one gentleman who thought the other players were working against him and got mad. He ended up flipping the table over and they had to just end the tournament there since everyone's chips were all messed up. The guy was kicked out of there and barred from playing there again. Thought that was pretty extreme.

Love to play, but a lot less time nowadays.

Where do you play? Mostly casinos, but occasional home game and some online.
What limits? Depends on where, but casino is NL $1/$2 usually.
Biggest wins? Cant recall anything huge, maybe around $500 ish
Any specific tourney/sit&go/cash game strategy you use? Strategy varies depending on the game.
Anyone hardcore and have links to strategy articles? I don't use online info, I have read a lot of good poker books.
anything else? I want to enter the new Colossus $500 buy in WSOP event in Vegas, but want to find others to go with to enter it. Anyone interested?

I thought that only happened in movies. What a jerk. Lucky he didn't literally get tossed out. lol

I used to play on line a lot but only for fun. I just can't trust these sites enough to play for cash. I mean, a couple of guys can team up on you for one. I remember reading about a group of people in the USA that hired a lawyer a few years ago because they suspected there was cheating. They said that evertime they had a hand when playing against certain players, those players would always fold as if he was seeing their cards. They were right. A former employee hacked into the system and was able to see everyones cards.

I have played in just a few fund raisers over the years and a league of 10 people for a few years as well. Playing in a tournament one time, it was down to 3 of us. 2 of us had about 90 percent of the chips and we were basically even. I have pocket A's and make a value bet. The low man folds and the other guy goes all in. I'm a happy guy! He throws down K's and me my A's. This was the tournament. Nothing on the flop. Then the turn is a friggin K. I'm sure this happened to all of us but the timing sucked. lol

I used to play religiously both online and live.

Live: Used to play $10-20 rebuy tourney 2-3 times per week with 15-30 players. I was 1 of the more consistent winners in my day.
Online: I played ALOT on fulltilt until Black friday happened then when the site relaunched it lost so much traffic I switched to pokerstars and played a fair bit but not as much as I used to. My biggest win was on fulltilt, I finished 1st out of 7600 players in a $10 tourney... won $14,800usd (I would've won a few grand more but when I was headsup I agreed to a deal with the other player because I had a 3-1 chip disadvantage). Had a handfull of other 2k+ cashes as well. Cash tables I'd play $1-2 blinds but tournaments were my thing- played anything from $1-$600 tourneys...but usually multi tabled $5-$25 tournaments.

I haven't played in about a year and don't have much desire to now that I have a bigger family to support and not as much free time as I once did.

The black friday thing definitely led to me losing the desire to play as often because that tourney that I won my big score happened a week before the online poker sites got shutdown so I had 12k left stuck on my account that I had to wait a year and a half for fulltilt to re-launch so I could withdrawl it. That left a sour taste in my mouth and made me lose trust in online gambling sites.

*One notable hand I remember playing was after I won my first decent tournament ($2500ish)... I played a $500 6man Sit-and-Go. I had AK with 1300 chips, blinds were 50/100, I raised to 250...the person in the bb had 1200 chips and called. Flop came 2Q3 or something like that, I had nothing...the other player instantly pushed allin. I'm like "Daaaang" but there was something fishy about how quickly he went allin on that flop, like he planned to push weather he hit anything or not. So based on this I called with my AK high...he had AJ high, the turn was a blank,river...jack. It basically lost me the game. After I made that call all the players at the table were like "great call man!" and I was like "Yea, alot of good it did me" LOL

I used to play a lot. Back when it was legal in the States to play online, I used to play everyday. Me and a couple buddies had a poker company that would put on tournaments at bars. We were very successful but stopped after a year because we all had careers and didn't want to stay out to midnight or later on a weeknight.

We could easily set up an online poker league. Play once a week or so.

I think I'm the same as most.. used to play more, don't play as much now that I have a family. I haven't had many big wins, $1600 being my largest 1st of 399 in a $10 tourney. There is a great hand story out of this though.

I normally played $2 & $5 tourney's, my wife was on her way to work and I had just blown out of my second tourney early in a row. We had just had an argument because she wanted to hit Mexico for vacation after school was out. I was the penny pincher saying we couldn't afford to go.

I was on tilt. Bad idea to enter another higher stakes tourney. But I did. $10 (see biggest cash above for end result). I was doing well, actually fended off going full on 'tilt' during the first 20 min. I was playing aggressive but smart. I was top 30 in chips when I got moved to a table with 4 other players all in the top 30. I knocked off a couple big hands and bumped into top 15.

Then I got dealt KK. Flop came A K Q.. four of us went all in. All four in the top 30 in chips. 10 J was flipped over, AA, QQ I was f---'d .. turn came Q ... river gave me the case K. mind blown!

This gave me a 2.5 - 1 chip lead in the tourney over 2nd - I never dropped below 3rd stack over the next 3 1/2 hours and just destroyed the final table.

wife came home explained I solved the financial issue to go on vacation. She started to like me playing poker after that

I've gone on small S&G runs cashing in 8 in a row or 7/10 and usually pulling in decent returns. But so hard to find a regular slot to play for a couple hours these days.

I still occasionally play online (Poker Stars), but really enjoy sitting around a table with five or six of my buddies, drinking beer, and taking their money. Hahahaha. When we do get together, and it doesn't happen often enough, we have lots of laughs. I'm sure the $$$ has been evenly distributed, but I have been lucky over the years and sometimes walked away having won three matches in a row.

I remember always getting excited to put money on the internet, buying 2-3 monster energy drinks (the green ones). I remember once I scared my brother when I got a bad beat and I threw the mouse against the wall and yelled an expletive. Good times lol.

My dad use to get mad at my brother and me "IS THAT ALL YOU GUYS TALK ABOUT IS THAT DAM POKER?" .... now all we talk about is hockey. When I started making those fantasy hockey projections it consumed my time and lost interest in poker.

The worst story I remember hearing is on my reserve, there was a poker game then one guy donked another guy ... there were drinks involved and the one guy got mad and pulled out a rifle and said a few things to the other guy. Not sure if the story is 100% true but that's why I don't play in those games. Too much drinking.

    Poker? I hardly know er!

Anyway, now that the Dad joke is out of the way. I used to play a lot when I lived in a small community in Newfoundland back around 2003. It was more just an excuse to sit around and get all gooned up with the boys.

Got into the online scene for a bit around 2007. Biggest win was around $500. I mostly played free rolls as I was a poor college student at the time. Actually met a woman through FB poker back then and she flew me out west to spend a week in the Rockies with her. Maybe that was my biggest poker win after all

Played tons online before it was cut off here in the US and was a successful player. Live I usually do 2-5NL and have a nice bankroll that I dip into as a way of funding my kids' Magic The Gathering hobby. I miss the online convenience and fish factor. But with all the HUDs and bots nowadays, online wouldn't be like it was in the glory days of 2003-2005 when I could literally print money.
