Default Nenshi re-elected as Calgary's mayor

This is interesting for Flames fans as the team pretty much campaigned for anyone else to win as the mayor said he wouldn't cave on an arena deal. I have no idea if a bunch of councillors switched, which could help the team in a vote.

The Flames communications director tweeted out afterwards (he's since deleted the tweet):

I can't believe it YYC. Having @nenshi as mayor is worse than @realDonaldTrump being president. #arrogant #bracefordisaster #outoftouch

Interest in a 2 for one deal? I know of another politician we would be willing to send in that offer!

But this news sucks big time for hockey and hockey fans in Calgary... that city needs a new arena. #StoneAge

And yes... polarizing is a good way to put it... but not polarized between parties... but between small business owners and the government.. Not a good situation for small business owners up here.

Apparently you can't fix stupid so thanks for nothing Calgary. Record number of people all came out of the woodworks to re-elect the exact same people who have been running the city down for the last 7 years. This city deserves another 50% property tax increase with no new stadium.

He didn't win this election nearly as easily as the past couple. I think the shine is off the coin with him with a lot of people. He's still there but it wasn't as handily as win as he had in the past.

How many people got out and voted against him just thinking if he stayed in, there would be a higher chance the hockey team moves? Or is he actually not doing a good job? Honest question because you see now voting is "cool" to go out and vote and most people don't actually know what each candidate is wanting to do, except the "Big Item" which could have been for other candidates "I will do everything in my power to get an arena built and paid for by the Flames". Like that's a pipe dream, and it seemed as an outside (and not heavily into politics) Nenshi was being realistic.

Small business owners have to take their lumps like everyone else.

Too many Canadians like to take their political queues from the USA, the Trump contagion is spreading up north...

As for the Flames, their PR campaign to antagonize Mayor Nenshi and the rest of city council will get them exactly nowhere.

Except the 51% number bandied about is incorrect and has been shown to be false.

Also Nenshi does want an arena, he just wants public money used to be paid back and not go the Flames plan of "you pay us and we keep everything to stay here"

And this has been horribly handled on both sides. Libs not saying anything but reading off their cue-cards and Cons just hyping up that they are killing small businesses and getting everyone in a frenzy when it is untrue. The small business tax changes they talked about effected the larger businesses with those who pay themselves in dividends/stocks to avoid higher taxes (could be wrong on the wording here) and people who self-incorporate to pay lower taxes as well.

And yeah Pengwin it is pretty polarized up here, not as bad as the USA though (Except maybe in GOOD OL' ALBERTA!). Though the same tactics are currently used here frequently

P.S. keep Trump, you guys elected him. LOL

Yes very true. I am not a small business owner... and yes, they should take their lumps.... but from that perspective... should others not take their lumps like small business owners?? There are lumps that small business owners face that others do not have.

This re-election will definitely inflate Nenshi's already large ego, now he can go up against the man with the biggest ego in Hockey, Brian Burke. This should go well...
