awesome everyone, thank you for your input.
Whats up boys? First time poster, long time lingerer, looking for a little extra input on a draft strategy .
2 C - 2 RW - 2 LW - 1 F - 4 D - 2 G - 5 BN
HTH Points - G/3, A/2, +/- 1, PPP/ 1.5, SHP/ 2.5, SOG/.3, HIT/.2, BLOCK/.2, SAVE/.2, WIN/4, SO/4
I know it is a lot to cover but the peripherals are what make a good GM, a good GM in my opinion.
I have the 8th pick - in the past I have been able to take Burns with my first pick and I've built around him but I don't see that happening this year. Most mock drafts I have done he is drafted in the top 5 and knowing the other guys in my league, he won't drop to 8.
So here is my plan, thinking of going Kucherov at 8 and Marchand at 13 (if Marchand is gone next on the list would be Laine).
Thoughts on that? Following those 2 picks I am thinking a tendy and a D-man. Who will be the standout tendy this year? Is it too early for J Quick?
Any thoughts or input is highly appreciated, thanks fellas
CORRECTION: title says 7th pick, its a mistake. it should say the 8th
awesome everyone, thank you for your input.
10 man - HTH Points - G/3 - A/2 - +/- 1 - PPP/ 1.5 - SHP/ 2.5 - SOG/.3 - PIM/.5 - HIT/.2 - BLOCK/.2 - SAVE/.2 - WIN/4 - SO/4
Quick should be about the tenth tender off the board in my book. Holtby, Price, Talbot, Murray, Rask, Vasilevsky, Dubnyk, Gibson, and Crawford I would pick before him.
As for your strategy? Well, I would say if you can get Kucherov at 8 that's awesome, but I don't think its guaranteed that he is waiting for you at eight so have a backup plan. Marchand is a great pick in a peripheral heavy league
8tm Keep 7FWD,4D,1G
3C,3LW,3RW,5D,2G (positional game played cap)
G(3),A(2),+/-(1),PM(0.5),PPP(1),GW(1),S(0.4),W(4),SV(0.2),GA(-1),SO(2)
C:Aho, Barkov, Pavelski(RW), Nugent-Hop(LW)
R:Rantanen, Pasta, Konecny
L:Guentzel, Gaudreau, Keller(RW), Benn
D:Makar, Karlsson, Sergachev, Dobson, Hronek, Sanderson
G:Vasilevskiy, Hart, Kuemper, Kotchetkov, Husso
Those categories I'd go Skater with my first 2 picks. There will be plenty of goalies with decent win numbers and lots of starts (lots of saves) in 3rd and subsequent rounds.
My top 20 would be:
1. McDavid
2. Crosby
3. Burns
4. Kucherov
5. P. Kane
6. Benn
7. Karlsson- even with injury in H2N
8. Ovechkin
9. Tarasenko
10. Stamkos
11. Marchand
12. Eichel
13. Laine
14. Matthews
15. Byfuglien
16. Marchand
17. Wheeler
18. Seguin
19. Scheifele
20. Draisaitl

No way Kucherov gets to 8th, or at least he shouldn't. If he does, then for sure pounce. Hope for Benn or Ovi to slip to that spot due to their off years.

I'm going to vote for Tarasenko here... Goals are little extra weighted and he's about as sure as they come for 40 goals a season. Especially if Schenn sticks with him.

I would factor in Pavelski in the top 20 as well with his dual position eligibility. For the 8th spot, Ovi, Benn, Tank are the likely candidates (as others have said Kucherov should not fall that far). With the league being Goal heavy, and SOGs and Hits being categories, Ovi is still a multi cat stud.

Goalies: Vasilevskyi, Lehner, Mrazek, Reimer
I think I would have to go with Benn before I could go Ovi. Ovi has been one of my favorite players in the league in the past but I'm just not sold on him anymore. His old age is catching up to him and the way he bangs and style of play leads me to believe that his ice time may start to decline more than it has. Not to mention the entire league knows where the Caps are going on the power play and no one is afraid to get in the way of his shot.
