I like mcavoy here. He had a really decent playoffs and will get the chance to show how he can keep that up.
So I just traded up to the 4th overall spot in our prospect / non-keeper draft and would like to target a top-end prospect D. I am willing to take on some risk to go for the prospect with the highest potential and would really appreciate some advice on whether I should target McAvoy, Makar or Heiskenen?
Thanks in advance.

I'd gamble on Makar.
I don't think McAvoy is a shoe-in to start off again where he ended last year. This doesn't take away anything from his potential output but if we are going to go with "potential" I'll take my chances with Makar!

I'd consider Makar first because he is more of a pure offensive dman, whereas McAvoy has a strong 2-way game. I'd be a bit worried that McAvoy gets the Morgan Rielly treatment where the more well-rounded dman gets less PP time than the offensive specialists like Krug and, eventually, Zboril, Lauzon and maybe even Grzelcyk.
It might not happen, that's why I said that I'd "consider" drafting Makar first... but I feel that the risk might be there, whereas Makar is an offensive specialist.
On a fantasy hockey break.
McAvoy carries the recency bias and for me that is the deal breaker as trade return on him should be quite a bit more...
Experience is the teacher of all things.
Highest potential: Makar
Safest: McAvoy
* I think Heiskenen and McAvoy will both be better players than Makar but Makar could be the best fantasy player.

McAvoy for me as well. There's just too much risk with Makar right now to rank him above McAvoy.
How do you expect to go top 3, and who is available in this draft. I think targeting a specific position is generally a very bad idea. BPA wins out in the long run.

Keep on, keepin' on.
I have the 4th overall pick top available prospects will include all from this years draft class along with McAvoy and Kaprizov. I am not exactly what veterans will be available but, from a fantasy perspective, I see both McAvoy and Makar has being the next best fantasy options after Hischier / Patrick and while also filling a need on my team - particularly since I am pretty stacked with young forwards both as keepers and prospects.
