Probably 3 years total, so not additional 3 years. That's what they usually do - void the final year of the previous contract when the new contract is signed.

Interesting note to allow a glimmer of hope:
Pronman mentioned that while KK could buy out the contract, MIN might be able to as well, as apparently KHL stars often build in opt out clauses, and they are very individually different from one another, assuming KK wants to come over.
Im not confident he knows what he wants, and since he has apparently had zero direct or agent contact with MIN, and has reportedly fired his NA agents, I don think think we see him until he can come over "a la Panarin" with money waiting for him.
