If there's been someone more valuable than Ovechkin, then there's something weird with the categories that are used...
Just a random question for a groggy Monday morning.
I'm curious who everyone's favourite multi-cat stud is from the past decade (anecdotally), as well as if anyone knows who the best is statistically over the past decade (David Backes? Scott Hartnell? Wayne Simmonds?).
For the purposes of this discussion, I'm talking about players that consistently did well across the board.
I personally have a soft spot for Scott Hartnell. In 2011-2012 (my first year having him on a fantasy team) he started the year horribly and found himself on the third line with a significant chunk of his ice time cut. After almost a month he stormed back to put up a career year with 37G 30A 67 Points +19 136 PIM 188 Hits 23 PPP and 232 SOG
Goalies: If I'm pickin em you best be sittin em!

You're overthinking this - it's Ovechkin, 100%.

Statistically, Ovechkin, yes... especially since just about every multi-cat league uses SOG.
I'd love to see the disparity between Ovechkin and whoever is #2 in SOG over past 10 years.
It would be a Gretzky-like lead.
As for "favourite"... I've been a Backes guy. He's a fun/tough player to watch play.
I can see many liking Corey Perry and Hartnell has been a fun cookie to watch too.
Speaking of Cookes or Ott-guys... if you really enjoyed your gooning, those were a couple to roster!
Ovi for forwards and big Buff for defense.

Aside from Ovi, I would also put Byfuglien up there. Shots, hits, PIM, blocked shots (the last couple of years), points, etc.
Kris Letang is also underrated for these categories, but he doesn't stay healthy enough.

Don't know the exact numbers but I started fantasy hockey about 11 years ago and I'd say the top names everyone wanted were Ovechkin, Perry, Hartnell, Backes, Simmonds; on defense Byfuglien, Chara, Weber...guys like that. That's for multicat h2h formats at least.

Ovechkin is king here. Benn showed a glimpse of reaching Ovy multi-cat status but has taken a step back.

Ovy....Ovy...Ovy....Ovy....Ovy.
If we're talking any player, it would have to be Ovechkin in a landslide.
If we're going with someone that typically isn't a round 1 or 2 selection, I'd say Byfuglien would be up there for me. Pretty deadly combo of stats, from the standard league ones like SOG, Pim to stuff like HITs/BLKS he's a beast.

Ovy is legendary when it comes to multi cat. Look at his 2008 season:

....and all from the LW
Has there ever been a better fantasy year than that since Mario or Gretzky ??
