Default Klim Kostin to sign ELC soon

    Igor Eronko‏ @IgorEronko
#STLBlues 2017 1st round pick Klim Kostin is officially a free agent now. Free to sign with the Blues
Hearing Kostin will sign an ELC with the Blues soon
    Dan Milstein-Hockey @HockeyAgent1
Klim Kostin, 1st round pick of 2017 NHL draft was granted KHL Free Agent status. We intend signing with St. Louis Blues in the coming days
Why this is important is because Kostin said at the draft that he will play in the NHL or the AHL next season, so he's not going to play junior hockey or stay in Europe. Don't sleep on him at your prospect draft as he'll be playing in the NHL sooner rather than later.

The big threat on him is if he stays in the AHL/North America. Dudes got tons of talent tho.

If he signs an ELC, he can't go anywhere without permission from the Blues. Once you sign that contract, the team decides where you play. Of course he could leave after 3 years if he hasn't made the NHL team by then but I wouldn't worry that far ahead just yet.

So basically, he's like Alexander Volkov, who was drafted in the 2nd round by TB. He's already signed his ELC and has said he's playing North America this year as well.
10 Team, Points Only, Cash League

25 Man Roster (no position), top 20 point getters count at end of month
Keep 20/25 at seasons end, Cut 5 to FA for redrafting
    Goalie points W=2pt L=-1pt SHO=2pt

Stamkos, Tavares, Eichel, Mercer, JRobertson, RThomas, Kucherov, Nugent-Hopkins, Tuch, KConnor, Necas, Point, Konecny, SJarvis, Cozenz, Morrissey, Bouchard, Josi, Novak, Tolvanen, Peterka, Brink

    G- Vasilevskiy, Sorokin, Oettinger

I don't know about Volkov's situation but Tampa can assign him to junior if they want to even if he has an ELC. Kostin has said he won't go to junior and will only sign ELC if he gets to play in the AHL or the NHL, so there could be a difference in their situations.

EliteProspects believe Volkov will play in the AHL next season, so maybe that is the plan.

If it's just the new 2017 draftees I would say top 15 for sure. Both of the drafts I have done so far I got him at 14 and 15 respectively and was thrilled with the pick.

I'd probably have him around 15 if it's only this year's draftees, interesting prospect.

I like him in that range as well. I wouldn't use a top-10 pick on him but he also shouldn't slip below #20.

NHL teams don't want to make risky picks too early in the 1st round when they have safe but sort of boring choices available. Those safe and boring choices aren't all that great in fantasy hockey, so the risky picks with high upside are better for fantasy hockey purposes.

Was he considered risky because he wanted to play in the KHL?
