New Prospect Draft

Just joined a 12 team Dynasty League, 17 players, picking up a bottom feeding team to rebuild. Need youth and talent in all positions.

We're doing a prospect draft for the first time, though, for a 5 player farm system. So, 5 rounds, and I have 2nd, 5th, 13th, 25th, and 37th picks overall (so far... trying to move up the lower picks still). Any and all players under 25yo and under 50gp are eligible, so I think this is my best opportunity to move this team in the direction of not-suck. It's a multi-cat league (G, A, PPP, SHP, Hit, Blk, PIM, +/-, SOG, W, GAA, SV%, SO).

Who's at the top of the list? I'm thinking for a top 15 something like:

Any obvious candidates I'm missing? Anything way out of whack in my ranking? My thought is to take whichever of Keller/Guentzel is available at 2 and then perhaps Demko at 5? (unless Hischier is still available, or something crazy...) Is Demko a reach at that position?

I dont have time to sort the list but off the top of my head theres alot of guys I'd take over Guentzel with your 2nd ov pick ; but thats just me .

maybe he's still there when you use your 5th ?

It seems you are forgetting defensemen. What about McAvoy? Montour? Theo? I feel they should be somewhere in the mix.

I would take Keller for long term production and guentzel for short term. But after that I would lean McAvoy.

Good point - thanks for that. Theodore has 53GP so is ineligible. Montour and McAvoy are worth thinking about though. I had Cale Makar on there for the home run swing but I think he was my only listed Dman, so thanks for the fill-in!

If the focus was solely long-term, I might flip Pulju, Kaprizov, Strome, and Kyle Connor (big omission on my part previously) above Guentzel. The rest would be about the same.

Okay, so now I'm thinking the list should go something like this. The Dobber prospect list is helpful but I'm trying to compare between positions and do so far a multi-cat league.

My two cents is ignore the goalies. In a 12 team league with categories 9:4 for skaters, you should be much better off not waiting the extra years for a goalie prospect to develop.
The others have got you going in the right direction for your list.

See if you could trade the 2 or 5 pick or whatever down to add extra pick. there looks like a few good players available, try for 4 picks in the top 15. May be good hype on picks to increase value.

I would not be afraid to grab slightly more established guys with slightly lower upside. In league drafts like this most teams are going to swing for the fences and draft really young guys. If you are smart in this draft you can really draft a lot of real points and hit the ground running next season in your league.
