This deal makes no sense for either team. Hjalmarsson is the better player but Arizona is not a Cup contender. Will they flip him? Maybe somewhere where the Blackhawks don't want him to go?

EDIT: Murphy is just $250k cheaper, so this isn't even a salary dump.

I really like Murphy but I like Hjalmarsson a lot more. Different types of defenders.

Good mercy Chayka likes to move defensemen.
Interesting move consider the cap hits are so similar.

Murphy is a RH-D, and CHI did just lose that in TVR.
Seabrook is the only quality RH-D they had on the blue-line... so maybe it was as simple as that.

I believe GMs are more strongly considering their D handed-chemistry these days... moreso than in past eras of NHL.

Just gonna say, Hjalmarsson is so much better than Murphy.

He was far and away Chicago's second best defenceman. Chicago is a much worse team now.

Interesting deal. How much of this has to do with CHI not being able to (or wanting to) move Seabrook I wonder. But yeah only a bit cheaper.

Maybe Murphy turns out to be very good, I know he has a higher points upside

This can't be a cap deal. It's 250K. That's nothing.
