    Default Sidney Crosby

so it has been confirmed Sidney Crosby has yet another concussion, and situations like this is the exact thing that had me nervous being a Crosby owner. Now has me wondering if it's at the point where I should start active looking to deal him away cause I hate having the thought in the back of my head that the possibility of losing my best player is a slight hit to the head away (mind you can be said for any player just more so w/ his concussion history), team is in SIG

I think if you are concerned, you make shop him. But I wouldn't trade him away for too big of a discount. Didn't he start the year with a concussion, only miss a week, and led the league in scoring down to the final few weeks?

Nope, wrong time. You don't shop someone with a history of concussions right after they get concussed again. You will not get close to a fair offer. You sit, wait for the return and him to score 15 in 6 games - then shop. Then you get paid.

Or, you no longer want to part with him because has put up 15pts in 6 games and are again crossing your fingers that he won't get concussed.

But no... until he is cleared & back playing, don't shop

As discussed in another thread, it depends on how you classify the Steckel/Hedman/Krejci string. I believe this is concussion #3

I've had Crosby in my keeper his whole career.

Any concussion. Big deal. He'll just come back better. Apparently.

We'll that's what I mean. Did he miss a year because he suffered 3 concussions in 2 weeks, or did he miss a year because he had an diagnosed broken neck? It's tough to say. The speed of recovery and relatively minor nature of the concussion he suffered at the start of this year, coupled with the notes that the air around this situation coming out of Pittsburgh is relatively positive, and the slapshot to the jaw a couple years ago didn't give him a concussion, makes me, to a degree, less concerned about his long term concussion health.

If you were seriously worried about Crosby and his concussions, you should have moved him at the end of the regular season, or at your last trade deadline, when his value was peak. But who are we kidding, you didn't want to move him then because he was producing.

Now is not the time to be shopping Crosby. Wait for him to come back (and he will come back) and producing again. That is the time to be shopping Crosby. You have to take the highs with the lows. He is one of the few elite (yes I said that word but Crosby fits that description) players in the league and it's easy to enjoy him when he's cooking. If you are just going to worry about what might happen next, then yes trade him; just not now.

He's had like 4 (or 3?) concussions in his NHL career. I am not scared. Remember how Burns had concussion issues which everyone seems to have forgotten by now? Perron too.

So yeah, if you move him not you will not get a great return. I'd keep him.

true but their concussions didn't make them miss the amount of time in their career that Crosby has (that I'm aware of), and Burns & Perron at those times weren't nearly as valuable as Crosby is, but yeah unless I'm getting another superstar I'm not gonna move him

I'm not sure I'd put any weight behind the player analogies. Injuries, and specifically concussions, are different for every player. For every Brent Burns there's a Peter Mueller too.

It's quite clear that Crosby has a soft spot (pun intended) for being concussed and they're serious injuries for him. So I'm certainly scared for his future-- whether it's his ability to play a full season, career longevity, style of play, etc... in my opinion it'd be foolish not to be.

Initially once I heard it was a concussion, I was admittedly worried. I have been shopping Sid, and recently turned down Seguin & Nylander for Sid. Since the hit, I've had a few guys kick the tires with nothing close to fair value.

He will come back, be elite, and then is the time to shop him.
