3rd rounder just for negotiating rights since hes a ufa in july. wow.
Rights were just traded to the Hurricanes for a 3rd in 2017. An interesting gamble.

One day I will quit fantasy hockey, today is not that day.
seems like a steep price but they have a good chance to re-sign him.
young team, gorgeous place to live, not much competition for the starting job. are there many teams out there that can promise darling more starts?
canes are obviously hoping he can talbot his way into becoming a starting goalie. if he pans out all they'll need is a legit center and they can get back into the playoffs. given their abundance of D it's likely they move one this offseason so it will be interesting to see if the canes sneak into the playoffs next year.
Interesting move indeed. I like it for the Canes.
I also like it for the Canes. They didn't give up anything major and it shows a shift in direction for their goaltending. I think they get the deal done because it's a great opportunity for Darling.

This also helps with my plans of dealing either Lundqvist or Crawford + for an upgrade in my keeper league.
Crap, I was kind of hoping the Jets might be in on Darling. Ah well, great move for the Canes.
This is the best landing spot for Darling. If they sign him he will increase in value by quite a bit

Shrewd move, Carolina. I think Darling signs, and will get a huge chunk of the team's starts next season. Where else could he have gone and land such a great opportunity.

The only 'slight' dilemma is if they sign him and Vegas doesn't pick Ward or Lack but TBH neither of their contracts would be tough to move with the right incentive but I do wonder which one they'd like to move....
have to say I like this as a landing ground for Darling and if I was him id try and make sure negotiations to smoothly
Experience is the teacher of all things.
I'm sure Carolina has their plan in place already.

fwiw , ward only has a ntc , not nmc so he can be exposed .
sorry if this was painfully obvious already

I don't see Vegas taking Ward or Lack, so if Carolina gets Darling signed, I'm guessing they buy out the final year of Lack's contract. The buyout cap hit would be:
2017-18: $750,000
2018-19: $1,000,000
So it's not that bad. I doubt they want to give up prospects or picks to get rid of either goalie when they both have just one year left.
