5 year age difference , one more year at 5.5 cap hit then likely 9+ though for JT
you'd have to weigh the hit you'd take in some of the cats that ovey's strong in verses what you gain in JT (faceoff wins)
This pick likely ends up being Nolan Patrick this year as I'm sure the guy picking first overall is going to shore up a goaler weakness. Is this a good trade for given it is a cap hit league. Ovie is about 9.5 JT is 5.5. I haven't even began to consider longevity here yet.

As its a partial keeper is Vatrano even going to make that list for you?
Experience is the teacher of all things.
Ovechkin + pick, for me.
That said - this IS a good time to buy low on Tavares.
I have about 90% confidence that Tavares is done with NYI.
Which means 2018 he'll be choosing the team of his choice - and knowing his past - he'll look to sign with a contender that has better complimentary scoring for him to play with.
I think VAN, CGY, and MON are all going to be willing to offer Tavares $10m/yr in summer of 2018.
He'll be a coveted man and has plenty of youth... whereas OV is on his down-years.
That said, I still like OV/top 2 pick - but keep up your pursuit of Tavares.
Ovie's gotta be a full fantasy pt/gm ahead of JT in your format - especially with the extra point for goals, even in this goal scoring down year for Ovie. It'll be 2-3 years? before these two players become a wash production wise. Even if 33-36 is Ovie's new norm, the hits, sog he provides pushes him above JT annually, point totals each year relatively equal.
With JT's salary going up after this season, even with the age, I think that keeps them even at best for JT.
I also think you're underselling the value of your top 2 pick. Nico/Nolan turn into a Hall/Seguin type, you'll kick yourself and hard for getting Vatrano in return.

IF you can land Patrick, I'd be all over that deal. IF you can only get Hischer, I'd still be very pleased with the return

Ovie/Patrick > JT/Vatrano by a big margin
Ovie with hits/shots is in a tier only accompanied by McDavid/Crosby and maybe Burns & Vatrano is a good year player but theres a reason why Patrick is the top of his draft class.
