Markstrom. They wouldn't have signed him to that contract unless they were planning on giving him the net.
Saw the Vegas thread and thought this was as good of a question mark.
My thoughts, Demko - not ready, not with the 17/18 team thatwill be in front of him.
Miller resigns ? I can see hit happening, but if he does, why would you want him? He would have zero desire to be a winner and well.. thatdoesn?t bode well for the kids.
Halak ? traded ? makes sense, Isles need to move him, Canucksneed a G for 1 year ? he has 1yr & 4.5m remaining. Get a prospect with himin the deal. Perhaps get Edler to waive his NTC going the other way. 2 birds ?1 stone. Isles could use some help on D
Steve Mason ? outside of Vancouver, I don?t know if there?sanother team in the NHL that will give him a starting/platoon job. Give him a1-2yr deal on the cheap.
Other option Markstrom & sign a back up? platooning aswell? meh? even for Van fans this would be discouraging.

The contract definitely does point to Markstrom. If I'm Vancouver I'm also calling Chad Johnson on July 1st.

Ya I agree with this. It's the same type of contract that the Isles signed with Greiss. Give the reins to the current backup/tandem goalie. Let him steer the ship for 2-3 years, then bring in your prized prospect full-time (Sorokin for the Isles and Demko for the Canucks).

I also expect Markstrom to be the starter next year. He's not the long term answer, but I think he's what they roll with to start next year.

it's not like Benning has issued poor extensions in the past (Sbisa/Sutter excluded? Right?).
The difference with Griess is that he played himself into that contract. Markstrom did not.. he would be a short term filler, whereas Griess appears to be more of a short term fix.

My vote goes to Markstrom.
Another vote for Markstrom. Thatcher Demko needs another year or two before he will be considered as the Canucks' starter.

Markstrom but there will be a handcuff and that could be harder to call - personally I think it will be Miller again but won't be surprised if it's someone else who takes the 1b spot
Experience is the teacher of all things.
My prediction is whomever is in net will have a bad sunburn on the back of his neck from the red light going off. But seriously, I think Miller will still be the main guy.
