Thoughts of Alica Vikander as Lara Croft?

Relax. Huge bombs is one of the major defining features of the character. You wouldn't cast a big fat guy to play a strung out addict, and you wouldn't cast a skinny guy for a new Rambo reboot. It's just a matter of body type.

Nobody is saying x>y, just that x is more appropriate than y in this particular instance.

Actually the big boob thing is NOT a defining feature anymore. Because it was ridiculous.

If it was me, as I said, I would have went with Cobie Smulders. I think the character needs to be played by a popular (but not too popular) mainstream actor (kinda like what Bale did for Batman, what Downey Jr did for Iron Man, what Jennifer Lawrence did for Katniss Everdeen, ...). I like Alica Vikander, but I just feel that she may lack that magic to draw to extra attention to this series. I hope I'm wrong though because I look forward to seeing this one (and hopefully many more after)!

Anyways, my other choices would have been:

Olivia Wilde


Emily Blunt

Well add The Machinist and Equilibrium prior to Batman as well, but ya, you're right. I just feel like Vikander lacks that Hollywood edge; don't get me wrong as she's an amazing and beautiful actress, but there's something missing IMO for this part. Thinking back on it, I should have used Harrison Ford instead of Bale.

In the end, I don't dislike Alicia here, I just don't feel like it was the best fit, but then again, who am I to know? These casting teams are the pros here!

If you mean 'entertaining and enjoyable as a film to watch', then for me yes.

If you mean 'going to win a bunch of academy awards and make you think deeply about the big questions in society and culture' well then probably not.

Anyway, I like Vikander a lot (Ex Machina was a great film) but mildly entertaining is a lot to expect from a video game movie. None of them are good.

What makes games great is that they are an interactive story where you are an active participant and a protagonist. Movies are a passive medium where you do not interact at all, you're not going to capture what makes people love a game even if you do cast it well. I haven't seen Assassin's Creed (one of my favourite game series) but I have heard nothing but bad things about it. Michael Fassbender is an amazing actor, apparently it made no difference. (I have no desire to see it).

And guys the old pixellated pinup Lara Croft is a thing of the past. I highly recommend the rebooted Tomb Raider games (Tomb Raider and Rise Of The Tomb Raider) - really incredible stuff, this ain't your Daddy's Lara Croft.
