Default Johansen, Monahan, MacKinnon - I'll Rep

How would you rank them in a keeper format moving forward (cats in signature)?

I own MacKinnon, but but got offered Johansen, Monahan and a 4th (2018) for my MacKinnon and a 3rd (2018).

I'm still not sure how my keepers will shake down outside of Kuznetsov (3) and Hall (2), but i'll basically have 2 keeper slots open, with guys like Johansen, Monahan and Wheeler fighting to be kept. Whoever I don't keep I'll move. It also gives me a stronger team for ROS, and I can consolidate guys to improve my keeper situation I think.

Initially, it started as he offering just Monahan for MacKinnon.

I have another possible deal where I'll move Hall, Huberdeau and Hedman for Backstrom, but not sure that I want to do that one because any d replacement I find won't be as good as Hedman.

Would you do 1, both or none of the deals mentioned? I will have to drop someone if I bring Monahan and Johansen on board (ie: Hornqvist or Domi). I need a 2nd goalie, because Price won't start every game.

I would do the Mack deal. No way on the Hedman deal. Drop Hornqvist. Worry about your keepers later. Try and make a deal to upgrade. Maybe a 2 for 1

Id swap MacK for RyJo and Monahan (& the picks). No interest at all in moving Hedman and the others for Backstrom; not because Backstrom sucks but because it is too much for just him.

I would also do the 1st trade and no way I do the second. As far as your rank question I think long term Monahan, Johansen, and McKinnon are in the same tier, so all close. McKinnon probably has the highest upside for me but he's on a terrible team so I don't suspect we ll see it for a few more years. If I had to rank them looking at the next 2 years and not beyond id go:

    Johansen
    Mckinnon
    Monahan

But it's very close for all 3 and Id definitely do that deal.

My only options to drop are my back up goalie (Schneider), domi or Hornqvist. Price won't play every night, so I will need to play another goalie occasionally. Would you include either domi or Hornqvist in the deal, just to avoid a competitive team picking one of them up? I don't think it would really change how the deal looks, but I am deeper at rw than lw. I do have hall/hubes at lw, and kuzy at centre, but he has lw eligibility too; but no one beyond that aside from Domi. My starting slots are fine, but makes me think keep Domi? Hornqvist seems to be slowing down, but is on a better offence.

Ya id try to include hornquist and maybe lose the picks if possible. Better a non contender gets him.

It's just a 1 round upgrade. Would seem pretty uneven if there is no pick component, even if I include Hornqvist?

The pick upgrade i'm giving is pretty minimal, this is how the 3rd and 4th rounds shook down this past draft:

3rd: Lucic, Jones, Radulov, Weber, Krejci, Zibanejad, Barrie, Sharp, Hedman, Trocheck, Bishop, Brassard, Crawford, Allen.

4th: Stepan, Rinne, Nyquist, Gallagher, Carter, Doughty, Ekblad, Palmieri, V Rask, Ristolainen, Hornqvist, Shattenkirk, Yandle, Zuccarello.

I would go into 2018 draft with 1, 2, 4, 4, 5, 6, 7, 7, 8 (I have an extra 7 already). There will be other opportunities to get a 3rd back at some point if I really want to, and it's just 1 pick out, 1 in anyways.

Definite yes to the first one, definite no to the second. Once you decide who of Wheeler or Monahan you won't keep, flip them for a nice pick or some other help.

Also, is 1 of Monahan/Johansen safer to sign to 4 years given their trajectories? Monahan is a 3, and Johansen is a 2, so going into next year, if I do end up keeping both, Monahan will be a 2 and Johansen 1. I can leave them in their current slots (based on our rules), or top them up (sign them to an open contract length. Basically Johansen I could have as a 1 or 4, and Monahan as a 2 or 4. If I just keep 1 of them, and sign Wheeler, I will obviously sign Wheeler to 1, but then the other young guy I'll sign to 4.

That MacKinnon deal is a good one, that would be worth your while. You don't want to do the other deal

Do you see 1 of the 2 guys I'm getting as being the safer guy to potentially sign longer? Also, how would you rank them relative to wheeler heading into next season?

The pick exchange is not worth losing the deal over it was just a suggestion as you are now giving up hornquist as well (not part of the original post).

I think Johansen is marginally safer but it's debatable. Again all 3 are in the same tier for me and it's close but I'd rank them:

    Johansen
    Monahan/Wheeler

Hornqvist is not in the deal any longer, I'm just going to drop Schneider, because I have Price and it's a wins/shut-outs league anyways, and Price will play the majority of games, so if I need to make up a game or 2 near the end of the year, I'll drop a forward then. The pick downgrade is just 1 round (3 to 4). Also, why is Wheeler ranked with Monahan, we were talking Johansen? Earlier, you were saying you like the deal for me, is that still the case? Are you saying don't not do the deal on the basis of there being a pick exchange, even if I had to include Hornqvist?

Apologies. I mis read your post where you mentioned wheeler. I still like the deal for you with the picks. A bit of a risk dropping Schneider but you know your league better than me and if you feel you can pick up a serviceable goalie when needed then I do the deal.
