Gostisbehere Dropped. Use #1 Waiver pick?

Gotisbehere has been dropped in my league. I own the #1 waiver pick. Is he worth a pickup? It is a keeper league, but he would not be a keeper for me. He is by far the best defencemen available in the free agents now; Others are Edler, Severson, Chara, or Streit. I am also in need of a Dmen with Letang injured (again).

Ghost is still the QB on one of the best PP units in the league. This is a no brainer.

Unless you have no shot at winning this year and there is a possibility of plucking another young stud in which you would be able to keep (as you mentioned Ghost would not be keeper, but not sure if that's the case for this particular, or all waiver claims), then yes, easily use your priority pick here.

Everyone is missing the fact that you are currently in 1st place, per your sig, and

need a defenseman with Letang injured again.

This is the most no-brainer move of no-brainer moves I've seen this year. You save the high waiver priority to do one of two things:

1. Deal with an injury
2. Grab somebody who was inexplicably dropped.

This move does BOTH of those. Make the move right now.

If this is the best dropped player normally in your league, I’d say do it. But if you’re in first I would see if he passes through in all honesty. Then trade Jones+Pick for him to the team that picks him up if he doesn’t pass waivers. The new team might think this is a free pick for a dropped player, but you get to keep the WW1 position.

Interesting opinions. I did decide to put a claim however. I'll have an extra D when Letang comes back, but that's a nice problem to have and I can just trade one. Ghost is by far the best option I've seen in free agents. Rakell was probably the best player dripped before, and he didn't even make it through waivers. No way Ghost makes it through.

Nice. That's the thing. Player of that value can't slide past you. As you said, if/when it gets to the point where you have a surplus of valuable D, find the most value in moving one out to help you elsewhere.

you have no need for him. If anything I am moving one of them to bolster forward depth in absence of your Panthers.

That's the plan. I'm keeping him while Letang is out, and I can trade him for a forward or a draft pick once I no longer need him.

when the time comes try to offload for JVR; that's the kind of forward piece you want to acquire to make a run.
