60 points would be a career high for him I think.. 50-55 would be the average
23 years old
19 pts in 43 games
Does he have 60 point potential, higher? has he been underwhelming this season? 2 pts in past 12 games i believe

Does Kirill Kaprizov, Joel Eriksson Ek, or Nikita Gusev have more value than Vesey in a pts keeper, 15 team 24 player roster, top 12 forward, top 4 d, top goalie count for pts
TRYING TO GAUGE HIS VALUE...IF HE HAS ANY LOL

All 4 players are prospects... Vessey cracked the NHL and looks decent in his rookie year. At this point, I would favour Vessey over the others but only time will tell who the best player will be.

that is not ideal production at all IMO. Doesn't look great for upside. The team scores the most goals in the NHL (or close) and he only has that many points as a 23 year old? Not ideal
To make it sound even worse, most of his points happened right at the beginning of the season as well. Almost nothing in the last 2 mths.

Vesey is probably one of the lowest value guys on my team. Here are some players available where I can pick up at the mid season draft (im currently 2nd place so id get 2nd last pick and once we drop a player we lose his points, but when we add a player we gain his points)
My lowest forward that counts for my points is T.J. Oshie 25 pts and lowest d man that counts for my points is Markov 21

I thought he was overrated/overhyped coming out of the NCAA because he won the Hobey Baker and was a free agent who could sign anywhere he wanted. His production so far seems to confirm my original suspicion. Was puzzled when he signed with NYR since that club has a surplus of talented wingers. I think 50 points is his ceiling. Lately he looks like a 4th liner who is barely hanging on to his job. I acquired him as a throw-in on a deal last summer, thinking that the hype around his signing would inflate his trade value, then traded him away before the season opener for Mat Barzal. Not feeling a single pang of regret thus far.
I like all 3 of the European prospects you mentioned better than Vesey. Only Eriksson Ek might have value this year though, the Wild could bring him back near the end of the season. Dont know if stashing players for the future is part of your league setup.
its keep 19 so i can definitely stash him, if vesey is not one of my keepers next year i can choose someone like eriksson ek or kaprizov if i choose to pick them up.
I would go with Eriksson Ek then.
ok, im going to drop andrew ladd and possible zaitsev at mid draft then aim for a top prospect, one team is being released so it goes into the draft, i will have a low pick since im high in the standings, the team has lots of good players such as pacioretty, bishop, allen, bergeron, v rask, mikael granlund are most notables, depends how many people show up to mid draft, i figure most of the good players on that team get snagged up before me but i will hope someone good falls to me.
I'm not sure if there is a study to back this up, but I feel like the star NCAA players who are moved straight into the NHL take a year to acclimatize to the 82 game schedule. Talented skaters like Eichel, Vesey, etc who move straight into the NHL are not used to having to be 'ON' for the grind of a full NHL season.
Alrighty, I have watched just about every Vesey game in NY so far this season and there are a number of factors involved in assessing his "upside".
First is the depth up front. Stepan, Kreider, Zuc are locked up through at least the 18-19 season. Then there is Rick Nash through 17-18 and quite likely the Rangers will try to retain him. Yes he is hurt a little too often and fades away in the 2nd season but he has become a complete player on both sides of the puck and is a core piece of the team. Now figure in JT Miller, Kevin Hayes and the pending RFA Mika Zibanejad. NY has almost 10 million projected cap space for next year so Mika will be resigned. Plus everything I have seen, heard and read from Mika is that he loves playing in NY.
So head count; Step, CK, Zuc, Nash, Miller, Hayes and Ziban. Thats 7 guys not named Vesey.
Now add in Buchnevich.
Then the "other" guys in Fast, Lindberg, Grabner and even Puempel whose hat trick was very impressive.
Not alot of quality ice time for Jimmy Vesey right ?
So strike one,
Here is the good news. The kid competes. He goes to the hard areas of the rink and gets the puck on net, looks for rebounds and has impressive puck sense in that he knows where his linemates are and can anticipate their next strides. He is tough as nails. If he gets popped, he bounces right back. No fear at all that I can detect from watching him. When he gets dropped on his ass in front of the net and crosschecked, the very next shift he is right in the goalies grill again. You have to love his compete level.
I think this aspect alone of his style of play should indicate his upside. If he were paired with say Buchnevich, as they are 23 and 21 respectively I think the two make beautiful music together. The knock on Pavel is a lack of core strength and a little bit of playing with his head down, but there is no doubt the kid has skills. Paired with Jimmy for the next 5 or 6 seasons, I think Vesey approaches 30 goals with some regularity, especially when NY moves on from Nash and Zuc.
Nash and Zuc get the plumb ice time with the extra man. That will go to the guys who produce and Jimmy Vesey does what he needs to score. Perhaps he becomes more of a defensively responsible player with 20-25 goals as the norm but he has higher upside than that. Parked in front or around the net with the extra man. 6'3" 208 pounds, good skater, heads up player with good anticipation and goes to the tough areas of the ice ? whats not to like ?
He currently has 4 PPG which is 1 less than Nylander and 7PPP the same as Tkachuk in 43 games as a rookie buried on the depth chart!
Yes his shooting% is a little high at 16.7, but he has only taken 66 shots so far this season and factor in that Laine is at 18% and Matthews is at 14.7.
Do the math with Vesey taking 200 shots and a familiar linemate such as Buch putting the puck into prime shooting position.
or not.
I am a buyer but fully admit I have rose colored glasses on.
Consider Sim Hockey because guys who play shutdown minutes, deflect shots and clear creases build championships. Yet in fantasy they litter the unwanted UFA lists.
