I don't know the prospect that well, but there have been reports that the Pens are ready to move on from him. So that's a knock on him. Not a death sentence by any means, let's see how he does when he eventually gets a real shot.

Is he available on the expansion draft? Would think if he isn't he may be part of a deal to stop Vegas taking someone else and might be a good fit for both parties....
Experience is the teacher of all things.
He is RFA at the end of the season and so I think he is available to be claimed (or protected) by the Pens. They would probably try to trade him lest lose him for nothing. They invested pretty heavily in him to just give him away.
Blades of Steel
9 Team Full Keeper - Pts Only (G,A,W,SO)
Crosby, Wheeler, Bergeron, Forsberg, Connor, Kopitar, E.Lindholm, Pastrnak, DeBrincat, Fiala
Jones, Klingberg, Hamilton, Theodore, Letang
Saros, Shesterkin
Garland, Vrana, Bjorkstrand, Verhaege, Backstrom, Karlsson, Perunovich, Spurgeon, Pulock, Hellebuyck
He is eligible for the expansion draft, but with the Pens already looking to have to expose a quality NHL d-man like Maatta, Dumoulin, Schultz, and/or Cole already...it would be a pipe dream for Vegas to take Pouliot. I believe Maatta was in play this year because of that situation, but naturally he had to the do the most Maatta thing and get injured.
As for him going somewhere else to get a real shot, the Pens have given him many opportunities to succeed. He was all but gifted a roster spot out of camp last year but knew it and showed up out of shape and really angered the Pens' brass who cut him from camp pretty early as a result. He has bust written all over him. And to think, the Pens could have taken Forsberg with that pick....thanks, Shero.

I see what you mean re Pitts potentially having a quality d man available but alas Vegas will be looking to take some boom or busts and based on what other d men should be available I do wonder if this is one of those swings that they take (especially if Pitts gives them an incentive to do so) but we will see

Blurb on Pouliot near the bottom. Not encouraging for his Pittsburgh future. The Rutherford comment about young defensemen often finding success with their second team is a cacophonous alarm.

Definitely does not sound good, but at least he has committed to the plan to leave him in WBS for the year, which long-term is best for him. He needs his ego destroyed without his confidence in his abilities shaken. It takes character, but that kind of stuff is developed. I wonder if we see a different Pouliot when he turns 24. Some guys just figure it all out around that age (when they develop frontal lobes).
