A couple other GM's in my league said that Matthews is a small step below McDavid..

Matthews looks great. He looks to be a two-way center who is going to dominate the game at both ends of the ice. In terms of NHL value he might be closer to McDavid than he is Gaudreau (but he's still a BIG step below McDavid. That kid looks otherworldly.)
Problem for you is that your league is points only. Gaudreau is an offensive dynamo, and although Matthews will be a more valuable NHLer overall, Gaudreau will likely be the more valuable fantasy asset in your league.
