2nd pick overall in 2012. He just can't seem to break through and become the d-man he was expected to be. Thoughts?

He's always injured and frankly I don't find him that good. He was in a weak draft class. As for numbers his opportunity to be the guy is gone. Seth Jones is the guy and David Savard is pretty solid too. So is Zach Werenski.

He as 1st pairing potentiel for sure. The fact that he was always injured didnt help. He still managed to get 25 pts last year with one of the worst hockey team.
I like his potential and his prime is coming for the next 4-6 years. He will not be a 55-60 pts dmen but a close to 40 pts or close...

Calgary had 4 dmen with 40 pts like 2 years ago so it can happen.

Not saying he will be Hedmen but very similar slow starts. Don't count him completely out yet. I think 40 point potential is realistic.

I think it's too early to write him off as well. As mentioned, he's struggled to stay healthy early on but that has only slowed down his progression a bit. He still has plenty of time to grow into the Dman the Blue Jackets expected him to be as the 2nd over all pick.

As mentioned earlier as well, it was a weak draft class that year.

He has it in him to improve a lot and maybe even get to 40 one day but how many more years do we have to wait? For those investing in him as a prospect with big upside it's starting to become very costly. Time matters.

I agree, time matters but I find you need to show more patience with D and goalies compared to forwards due to their progression curve. I've given up too early on D a few times and have regretted it and learned from that lesson.

Guys like Murray are awesome trade bait while rebuilders waste time with their rebuilds.

If I was a rebuilding team with time to burn, I'd have no issues investing in Murray.

You should really practice what you preach and ditch the overhyped prospect for better, more proven assets.

I've tried acquiring Murray in the UHL to no avail.

    Wrong way round Axe

To quantify my point - I think his opportunity to be a top pairing guy in CBJ has disappeared right now... That's not to say he can't still be one but in his current position I don;think he has any chance TBH

He'll just continue getting injured all the time and play a more defensive role. That's where he'll be most valuable.
