    Default Moving Giroux

We need to settle on our 4 keepers this Friday, so it's crunch time on any off-season moves. Since Giroux has been stripped of his RW status I plan on trading him and keeping Kucherov instead. I have one GM interested in him and have been asked to start an offer. He has 3-1st round picks and 2-2nds for starters. I sent out two offers, Giroux for 1st(#5)/3rd(#22) and Giroux for 1st(#10)/2nd(#12). The top 30 forwards will be off the lists to start the draft so there's not a lot of "high end" forwards outside of a handful. Having 4 picks in the top 20 will set me up nice for the draft. Thoughts? Am I asking too much or is this about right?

His keepers, Kuznetsov, Schneider, Okposo and maybe Schwartz or Eberle, so he could really use Giroux.

I would be surprised if he makes the deal for a 1st rounder... because he will have to give up a keeper and lose his 1st round pick (might do it since he has multiple ones)

But if you are trying to dish him before the draft... he might hold out and think he might be able to obtain Giroux in the first draft and still keep his keeper.

Those are steep offers. If you can land a first, then take it an run. Trading a pick for a keeper is usually a losing situation.

It's been suggested, but I told him I will either be keeping him or moving him, but I won't let him go back into the draft. I'd be moving Kucherov if the others had as much faith in him as I do. I should, however, be able to get Kucherov in the redraft if this falls through, especially how Yahoo has him ranked.

I agree with PH. The way he'll be looking at it is whether he'll be able to draft G with any of the picks he's sending you anyhow. I think you might be better off looking for maybe a 2nd and 3rd or something along those lines.

I have the 8th and we use a straight draft if that matters. It's hard to gauge the value of a top 20 in a keep 4.

I think in a keep 4 Giroux goes in the first 5 picks. Normally he'd be going somewhere in the teens, so getting him with the equivalent of a 41st-45th pick would be a bargain. Between that and the fact that your trade partner would have to drop one of his keepers (who will likely go in the first 10-15 picks), I just don't know if they'll see the value in trading a first.

That would probably be closer. At the very least it's not going to get laughed off. I think if you could land a top 15 and something a couple rounds later, I'd be taking it. Better to get something for Giroux than to just lose him before your first pick comes around.

Agreed, but if it comes down to it, I'm keeping G over Kucherov and taking my chances that I can redraft him. But, I think the deal could be worked out with that tweak.

Yes it matters... because he will know where you draft... so he will know where you will try drafting him back at...

He knows he doesn't have to trade for him if he can draft him before you get a 1st round pick.

So after some back and forth we decided on Giroux for a 2nd (#12 overall), considering he was about to be dropped for nothing, I think I did well.

Tons of players had extra positions stripped during the summer - it ALWAYS happens. It hinders your roster for maybe October, but then the positions return as they line up on wings for PP's... He will regain his wing status around the 10-12 game mark.

In a keep 4, I'd just keep BPA period and have zero concern for players position.

Agree, however, I think Kucherov is/will be the better player going forward. At least I feel I break even.
