My “night” started with a 500-mile drive yesterday to Halifax, then a 9:30 PM draft that I had to set my alarm ⏰ for. Happily my homework was done in advance.

Why not do a little review!

    C: Zibanejad, Zegras
    LW: Stamkos,
    RW: Kucherov, Marner
    D: Carlson, Montour, Weegar, Andersson
    G: Hellebuyck
    NA: Wallstedt

    1.11 - Sam Reinhart
For some reason I thought a top goalie or Horvat, PLD or Hughes would fall to me. Woops. Took my BPA.

    2.11 - Mark Scheifele
Didn't really want to take another C but couldn't pass up the points upside here.

    3.11 - BOBROVSKY
Goalies were starting to go and I just loved the wins and saves upside. Good thing I did this because 3 more goalies went in the next 4 picks.

    4.8 - Barrett Hayton
Definite reach and I'm sure I'll regret taking him over another winger, but I owned him last year so I am pretty biased. Hoping for more great things.

    4.11 - Rickard Rakell
Guy who does everything. And I really needed another winger.

    5.11 - Adam Larsson

Ok now this was probably a reach. But...I did remember spending a lot of last year trying to find a guy to just get me consistent hits and blks. Seeing Patrick Kane, Thompson and Reichel go right after makes me a little sick though...

    7.11 - Lawson Crouse
....Especially since I didn't have a pick for 2 rounds. Woops. I had Merz lined up here for my 3rd goalie and he went right before.

    8.11 - Matt Duchene
It was Duchene or Ghost and the latter went next. Points/PP upside with some added FW.

    9.11 - Jonas Johansson
    Why not...

    10.11 - Sam Girard
Colorado's D core hasn't been the healthiest so grabbed Girard just in case. I like him for a 6th D.

    11.11 - UPL
Is Levi going to make it? Does anyone know?

    12.11 - Eric Haula
All around "4th liner" for my team.

    13.11 - Jesper Wallstedt
    Another year of holding him.

    Full team
    C: Zibanejad, Zegras, Scheifele, Hayton
    LW: Stamkos, Rakell, Crouse, Haula
    RW: Kucherov, Marner, Reinhart, Duchene
D: Carlson, Montour, Weegar, Andersson, Girard, Larsson
    G: Hellebuyck, Bobrovsky, Johansson, UPL
    NA: Wallstedt

    Fun.
    Kept: Hintz, E.Lindholm, ErikssonEk, Suzuki
    Robertson, Hyman
    Doughty, Dunn, D.Toews, Pionk
    Ullmark
    B.Clarke

1.3 Georgiev - i’m not really sure that Ullmark will get more than 44 starts, and this guy looks like a solid #1 on a sure fire team.

1.9 and 1.12 - Seth Jarvis, Adrian Kempe - both dual-eligible C/R players who I’d targeted, and surprised to get both. First line, first power-play times two.

    3.3 - Sam Bennett - multicat 2nd line C for offense-oriented Panthers

3.5 - Mark Stone - IF, IF, IF he stays healthy, he’s a stud

4.2 - Joonas Korpisalo - really early for 3rd goalkeeper and I don’t know that I needed him, but I have to have one of the strongest trios in the league.

6.2 - Lucas Reichel - ok, I needed a left wing, and I watched many of the young stars go early. A gamble.

6.11 - Vlad Tarasenko - didn’t figure he’d last to hear. Over-loaded with RW position isn’t a bad thing, either. Hilarious that just then, my simultaneous other-league draft was at my back-to-back picks, so I ditched almost instantly to autopilot for the rest.

Jack Quinn, Evan Rodrigues, Luke Evangelista were three of the top six players that I’d left in my queue - no issues there, but why Yahoo put in Filip Chytil ahead of four (yeah) D-men who I’d ranked ahead of him?? Oh well, easily remedied. As it was, I drafted zero defensemen. LOL.

My other league, I was live-drafting after the first round (12th pick, Samsonov), and it did get hairy when it was my turn at the same time (twice). I completely lost track there, but just like Florida - I just need to squeeze into the playoffs and then see what happens.
CONDORS, 2022-23 league champions, Reg Dunlop Mem Cup

12-team, H2H. Keep 12, but drop 2 of top four skaters, and also 2 of next six, then five more (from end-of-year rankings). One GK max.

    Stutzle, Sergachev
    Keller, Doughty, Verhaeghe, ErikssonEk
    E.Lindholm, Barzal, J.Gaudreau, Huberdeau, S. Wright
    Gustavsson

    Original keepers:

    JT Miller
    Jonathan Huberdeau

    Quinton Byfield
    Nico Hischier
    Alex Debrincat

    Dmen:

    Aaron Ekblad
    Josh Morrissey
    Jacob Chychrun
    Owen Power

    Goalie:

    Jarry

    NA: Simon Edvinsson

12.7 (139) - Filip Gustavsson - I had a hard time cutting him and keeping Jarry, so I wanted to grab him again. I knew I wouldnt get another crack at him and quality goalies are tough to find.

13.7 (151) - Jonathan Marchessault - RW are hard to find in this league, and I had Marchessault in my top 10 going into this draft after the goalies.

14.7 (163) - Jamie Benn - He fits this league setup so well as a multicat guy, plus a bonus FOW from the wing is always a good thing.

15.7 (175) - Brayden Schenn - I needed to start focusing on FOWs, as you'll see with my next few picks. Schenn was the best available.

16.7 - Brock Nelson (187) - Never gets love but hits all the categories. Proabably the only round I felt like I got sniped as I was looking straight at Tom Wilson here, but he went a couple picks before me.

17.7 (199) - Dawson Mercer - Again, RW who can score.

18.2 (206) - Dylan Strome - Another center who is probably the top center in Washington these days. Good PP1 guy with on a good PP team.

18.7 - David Perron (211) - His LW/RW versatility seemed likable here and offers a bit of everything.

19.7 (223) - Luke Schenn - Might as well grab the brother and collect one of the best hitters in the game.

    20.7 (235) - Marc-Andre Fleury - Handcuff to Gustavsson

21.7 (247) - Ryan Pulock - Needed to grab a D here to fill my roster. Lots of options but went with one I felt hit a lot of categories instead of just worrying about hits/blocks.

22.7 (259) - Taylor Hall - Last pick for me so I went with the sentimental choice in Hall, who might just hitch on with Bedard and rejuvenate his career a bit. Worse case scenario, he's WW fodder.

At then end of the day, I wasn't drafting to find keepers. I really like all my keepers so I would be surprised if I found someone who will come in and replace any of them, but then again, you never know. Hischier was a draft pick last year who found his way to my keepers this year so never say never I suppose. If all goes according to plan (which we all know never happens), I should be competitive this year and find the playoffs again.

Oh, and right after the draft, I traded Hischier for Evan Bouchard. Keeper D are even harder to find in this league so I added to the stable.

This is very true. I was a pick away from Luke Hughes. Frigging EB. I did stumble into Montour last year so that has been a bonus
