Do you really need him? Guess it depends who else is available
So, I remember a few years ago, both Linback and Holtby were 1 year rookies, and they were both draft able in my league. (My league is 1 year behind, where a player has to have played at least 1 NHL game the year prior to be draftable)
I had the 13th of 13th pick in the first round, and I was pissed when the 12th position GM took Lindback...I got "stuck" with Holtby, or better to say, I settled for him, I know he was good.....clearly I am laughing now.
So, I have 3 1st round picks this year, and there are some good draftables...is Murray worth my 12th overall pick? I also have a 2nd round pick in the middle of the round, but not sure he will fall there....
Just looking for some thoughts on if he's a Holtby or a Lindback...
TIA

Definitely more so Holtby than Lindback. Lindback made it on size, and not NHL level talent. Murray is big, but as he showed, he has the talent and mindset needed to succeed at this level. In a prospect draft, no matter what year it is, I don't think Murray at 12 would be a stretch. Don't wait until round 2.

Need? Def not as I have Holtby and Price, although holding him for future value, or preventing other GMs to have him, is my train of thought
In a year or so, if it pans out, perhaps I trade Price to keep the cheaper Murray.
But ya, I guess it depends on whos available
That's my logic when I saw your team - personally, as you look like a perennial contender, I go best player available every time

In a 14 team league with 2 goalies starting, I don't find it hard to believe that Murray could be BPA in your first round
I guess it depends what else is there - the OP mentions some good draftables

I'd think there's a chance that he's not even available at 12, it really depends on who else is available. I'd guess that the earliest picks are going to be Panarin and other high-offence types. But Murray is likely the best goalie prospect available (although I'm not positive who else would be in the 1 year behind group, Hellebuyck and maybe Vas?) so there's a chance he's gone in the 6-10 range. What else is available, and where are your other picks? I'd definitely take Murray at 12 if he's there, either way though.

I think if you can get him at 12 then great. Move him to upgrade somewhere else.
