This article is a pretty good take on his value to Boston. I especially enjoyed the mic'd up video.
And I enjoyed the stick to the groin at the end. A guy you just love to hate.

The lockout is inevitable anyway. They haven't successfully negotiated a deal with the Bettman regime without going to a lockout yet. I can't see it starting now.
    Without me, it's only "aweso".

Yeah and the Marchand deal has nothing to with that. If anything the front loaded contracts (Parise Suter kovy) and even the Toews and kane deals are more to blame IMO. Look at a few weeks ago. If Marchand was a Fa he would e gotten a similar deal this year

And it's clear that every lockout to this point has done nothing to stop the stupid contracts either.

Plus, at least in a way, the overpayment of average (at best) d men is another major issue. Almost any d man now gets 4-5m regardless of if they are capable or not. Some teams have been overpaying fringe 3rd liners to 4th line guys too.

Based on comparables the past few years and star contracts before that, Marchand asking for 7 I don't see as bad, at least not in comparison

I agree with most though. We have to recognize, even though we don't understand why (lol), hockey just doesn't have the money that other sports do. Contracts need to be reeled in...in general.

If stars were getting 8m. 2nd tier stars got 6.5. 2nd liners got 4. Bottom six guys got 1-2. Star d got 7-8. 2nd tier d got 4-5. Bottom 2 d got 2. I know these are generalizations, but they would make sense, at least sort of.

You pay your stars...to an extent. But moreso don't pay your fringe and replaceable pieces and IMO it would be a hefty start to no lockouts etc. but I know the union plays a part etc that we just don't see(at least I don't---there are many in here that are way more knowledgeable on that part).

Here we go again, salaries are getting way out of control.. Marchand would be foolish not to ask for that cash though actually.. I don't blame the guy to be honest..
