We all know IRL Doughty is worth way more then fantasy hockey version, however he still is a stud and the 2.5x makes him pretty valuable. With the team in my signature should I move him for a 21 year old Sean Monahan? Thoughts?

I'd stand pat due to the 2.5x defense points. If he will add a legitimate piece instead of Brossoit, then perhaps I would consider it as Monahan has a lot of potential

General comment and question to anyone:

Why is there an assumption that if D get more points in such a format they are definitely more valuable? Isn't it more relevant to compare other D and see if the ranges of players change, thus making a certain tier more or less valuable?

Without going through the numbers, this seems to me that more offensive defensemen are more valuable to the more balanced ones since it's those categories that are weighted higher. However, it's possible that perhaps it makes tiers bigger and thus not as valuable because there are more D like him available.

Then, if the player involved is deemed more valuable to its comparables, then you can look at how that affects the value compared to the opposing player in the deal when looking at all factors?

Of course, this may all be moot if you felt that Doughty in a vacuum is more valuable than Monahan, and when you consider needs it doesn't sway it.

But I'm curious on the automatic 'D has more points so they are more valuable' statement when you aren't comparing to another defensemen.

Am I making sense or does it come off as an incoherent ramble?

In simple terms, the Subbans, Karlssons, OEL's etc of my league are extremely valuable because they put up forward type points. Just to gage the points my players have put up I attached a screen shot of my main roster. I should note that defensive points are +2.5 my apologies. So a goal or assist for a forward is 5 points, defense is 7.5. So they do score more if they put up forward like numbers, otherwise they certainly are not above forwards...

So what gives you the better combination? I'm thinking since defensemen do have that boost and appear to be more valuable, plus the fact that you seem to start 7 forwards vs 4 defensemen, that the replacement defensemen would provide lesser value. Therefore, Doughty + replacement forward would be the better option here.

Any combo of 3 C and 3 wing or 2C 4 wing or 4C 2wing. Not that it makes a huge difference. So you suggest standing pat then too?

With the information we have, absolutely. Do this quick though;

FP/G for Doughty + average FP/G of the top replacement forwards off the waiver wire
vs
FP/G for Monahan + average FP/G of the top replacement defensemen off the waiver wire

Should paint a pretty clear picture.
