Wow, not what I expected at all. He's in a bit of a decline, especially with his injury last year, but I didn't expect a buyout. I feel like he'll still have no problem signing a decent deal someplace else and being a solid piece as a 4/5 kind of guy. What I'd take from this is Boston must be close to a deal with Krug, and that they're still in talks/close on a trade for another top 4 dman. Likely just needed the dollars to line up, and the 2.5ish mil they're saving here was needed.

This would have made more sense to me if he had a NMC and was hence a forced keeper on expansion. Looking at Boston's D, not sure what the plan is, or if they have one...
