Could you imagine if Nashville wound up with a much better haul for P.K. than Weber? There'd be riots in the Montreal streets.

Not very likely IMO. Who would you be shopping for in return?

It has to be something related to a locker room issue...
Otherwise this trade doesn't make sense for the Habs, except for a little cap space.
It's a sad day in Montreal, just look at the Canadiens Twitter account and the fans' reactions.

Who's to say - I just tossed it out there since now that arguably the biggest hurdle has been cleared (i.e., getting him out of Montreal) some teams could try to step up and wow Nashville with an offer they can't refuse. It would be sort of a belated three way trade.

why didn't bergevin just trade subban for hall? the deal happened right after so clearly EDM/MTL had talks about a Hall/Subban swap.

Montreal's biggest problem is offense, Hall would have helped their team a lot more than Weber.

It will be like owning Pronger and Neidermayer. Priceless.
The only reason I see it happening is if there's a way for them to now move him to EDM or Boston. Pick up another solid winger. They have the most depth at D, so it'd be where they trade from, if anywhere. I don't think it's super likely, but it was my first thought as a possibility when I saw the trade.

You're absolutely right. It just seems to me if you're trading your captain and franchise players, it's most often to fill a big hole as opposed to an upgrade. But again, I think this is a good move for NSH either way, just immediately thought it might be a possibility.

Eberle is the only one I see making any sense, and you would need a big plus on top of that.

Agreed with the "locker room" thing. It has to be. For this trade AND the Hall trade. I have to wonder if there were maybe some trade requests/demands. Neither of these trades make any damned sense otherwise. I know Yost had a tweet from an NHL team exec saying "Chiarelli should have called us, we would have offered more than Larsson". At least with Edmonton you know they were desperate for anything that looked like it could become a first pairing defenseman. Subban? How do you trade one of the best and most fun to watch players, in his prime, for a guy who is past his prime, just slightly less against the cap, and you have to pay until he's 40?
