Thinking about this from the other GM... I want either Benn/Burns, Kucherov/Karlsson, or Wheeler/Karlsson.

You have to overpay for superstars switching teams (Stamkos) and the young high-drafted kids (Laine... or Matthews).

you may as well offer him everyone apart from your keepers... ultimately it won't matter if you aren't keeping them

As P7 says though I am not sure that there is enough outside of your keepers that will mean they do (unless of course their other keepers are average)

10 team keep 5 might be to rich for your blood. Let's say you land it though. I don't know if Laine will be that much of an upgrade over your last keeper anyway. If its him vs Wheeler or Kuch who could easily have 70 point seasons this year do you think he would surpass them on potential alone?

While were talking your team would you really take Laine 2nd overall anyway over let's say Giroux or a goalie in your format?

You are absolutely right theres no way that gets him.
As for your opinion thats a crazy amount for stamkos (although im sure its the case) seems to me like more of a lateral move.

i agree with you, i wanted to do it without giving up benn or kucherov, also as per your goalie recommendation i also have the 4th 5th 12th and 16th overall picks was planning on using one of them as my #2 goalie (just traded bishop for burns and the 12th)

i couldnt possibly put every bit of information that goes into this question in the intital post hence calling it vague and broad. Im just saying generally offseason trades dont work when you offer quantity over quality

Your question is not really broad nor vague, as it's focusing on acquiring one specific return in your league.

I would demand one of Karlsson or Burns coming back with picks 4 & 12. Would settle for picks 5 & 16 with one of those guys. I would not often give up a keeper & a really high pick for 2 keepers, because that puts me (as the other team) down a player, since I have to drop somebody else. However, if it was Benn & a one of Burns/Karlsson, and I got the 12 pick as well, I would live with that, seeing the keepers he has to pick from.

Who are his 5 keepers? Whatever you offer him, you will have to better his keeper group after the departure of Stamkos. Getting the number 2 pick will take that + some extra incentives in the form of picks.

It makes sense to use Giroux as a starting point in this trade as Giroux > Stamkos but to get it done you would have to give up one of your current keepers on top of this to make room for Stamkos as your 5th keeper. I would say that Kucherov would be the piece to swing this deal as I think the other manger would swap Giroux and Kucherov in his keepers for his Stamkos and Getzlaf (i.e. an upgrade vs his current 5).

When it's all said and done, your keepers look the same except you have Stamkos over Kucherov and you have Laine. A win for both sides IMO.

I dont see how that works for me as Benn is better than stamkos, but thanks for your response.

That's because the question "What would it take to get player X?" should pretty much always be answered by "Here is what I want..." and it's not what you want as the inquirer, but it is what works for the other side who is responding to you. Then you need to figure out a way to meet in the middle somewhere.

He didn't move, so it stays the same. He doesn't have that shine of being on a new team, but he also stays on one of the better offensive teams.
