Default whats your top 3 ?

For the league in sig, Points only

    These Defenseman are available.

How would you rank them ?

    Dmitry Orlov
    Michael Stone
    Marc-Edouard Vlasic
    Mattias Ekholm
    Colton Parayko

I know its not the sexiest names out there bbut they are the one available.

Would you choose one over Gardiner or you would keep Gardiner since the leafs are starting to built something nice ?

If Shatty leaves, then Parayko is in his own category from these names. Even if Shatty doesn't leave, he'll miss 20 games where Parayko will get 15 points, and average 40 the rest of it, giving him a nice 45. So either way I like HR's list.

Vlasic is a bit of an oddball here being a little older than the others. His past season was a bit of an anomaly based on a big jump in PP time. None of his other stats really stick out from career norms. So it seems as though 40pts is about his cap when he gets a big amount of PP time (2minutes). If that goes down, expect him to return to the mid twenties, and maybe around 30 if he plays the full season.

Parayko and Ekholm both have the potential for 45+ if they weren't behind top pair D. Since they are, they should still be around 35pts, and have a slightly higher floor. Maybe Vlasic does deserve to be above Stone, but that would be as high as I would move him on the list.

These are not "unsexy" names, as all could conceivably get 30+ points in 2016-17, which is something only 50 d-men did last season.

The wild cards are Parayko, who could explode if Shattenkirk is dealt, and Stone, who could see his totals drop given the offseason changes in Arizona. But maybe Stone gets dealt, in which case on the right team he could possibly improve upon what he did in 2015-16.

Also, I see Vlasic's 2015-16 as kind of a mid-career "new normal" for him, rather than a fluke. Note to self - pencil in Vlasic for a Cage Match around January....

I'd rank them as follows, assuming Shattenkirk is dealt but Stone isn't:

    Parayko
    Vlasic
    Gardiner
    Ekholm
    Stone
