Considering what Detroit paid to move Datsyuks contract compared to what Chicago paid to move Bickell's, I am with DN, terrible deal for Chicago.

Definitely agree it was a bad deal... Signing Bickell to the contract in the first place was a mistake in everybody's eyes except for Bowman's. And losing Teravainen turned out to be a huge overpayment seeing as Bickell was cheaper than Datsyuk and still able to play, yet got a better return.

But just because they had to trade Shaw doesn't make the deal any worse. It's the same now as it was before trading Shaw. Still a bad deal, but in the end they still need that cap space regardless. Hopefully they spend it well and make us forget about losing TT.

TBH I think if Shaw gets a 4-4.5 million deal then I think the Hawks will have dodged a bullet... I think he is worth it in the right environment but when you consider the HAwks cap constraints I think he would have done more harm than good at that price

I think they were pretty sure Shaw would have to go too, unless he took a cheaper deal, and why would he do that? While not the biggest guy, he has two Cups, is versatile and intense, "gritty" in the vernacular, which a lot of teams can use. They know Hartman has a good chance of filling a similar role. All the moves open the door for Schmaltz, Hartman, maybe Motte or Hinostroza. Don't forget, they need to sign Panarin soon and this may also allow them to keep Kruger. Why they didn't keep Danault as an option to Kruger's role, I don't know.

    Per FGagnon from RDS:
Bergevin had Bowman's permission to talk to Shaw's agent, Brisson, a good friend of him, prior to the trade.
He thinks the deal will be 5 or 6 years and under 4M$ per.
