[Rumour] Sabres all-in on Stamkos

Darren Dreger was on Montreal’s TSN 690 on Tuesday morning.

“There’s a lot of speculation that they’re going absolutely all-in on Steven Stamkos. I mean, some of the numbers being rumored – and I always hate throwing out or building off rumors, because as an Insider, our job is to separate fact from fiction. But Newport isn’t talking and neither is the Tampa Bay Lightning, so nothing has changed there. But some of the numbers being speculated on are upwards of $12 million per year coming out of Buffalo.

I have said that I think he is a good fit in Buffalo on the top line wing, but I'm not sure he is a good fit anywhere at 12mil. I don't disbelieve it however because Buffalo has a couple of young guys to build around, and probably feel as though Stammer would be a big help in taking the next step.

If they honestly plan on paying him $12M per year, he best be their #1 center, if not their best player, which he wouldn't be. Stamkos has openly said he wants to play center in the NHL, not on the wing.

Wow. I love the way Buffalo's been drafting and building from the ground up, and this would just throw an anchor on the whole thing. Hope they don't do this.

I think Murphy is going to rise from his grave because of this post. Stammer is now 100% signing in Buffalo.

Stamkos would be Buffalo's best player. Then it would be O'Reilly than a tie between Reinhart and Eichel.
